Hobo Dinners
Great for camping outdoors, backyard barbecues and “Under the Stars” slumber parties.

Makes four dinners.

  • 1 pound ground beef (1/4 pound per person)

  • 4 baking potatoes (one per person)

  • 4 carrots (one per person)

  • 1 white onion, optional

  • Worcestershire sauce for seasoning

  • Salt and pepper for seasoning

  • Four 16-inch long sheets heavy-duty aluminum foil (one per person)

  • Nonstick cooking spray

  2. Divide ground beef and roll into 1-1/2-inch meatballs.

  3. Divide meatballs evenly and place on each sheet of foil.

  4. Dice potatoes into 1-1/2-inch chunks and divide and place onto foil sheets.

  5. Slice carrots and place onto foil sheets.

  6. Dice onion and add according to flavor preference.

  7. Pull sides of aluminum foil up around meat and vegetables, forming a bowl shape.

  8. Season meat and vegetables with Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper, and other desired seasonings.

  9. Twist aluminum foil together on the top, forming a seal and a hobo-bag-like shape.

  10. Place bundles on the grill. Grill for approximately 25-30 minutes or until meat is cooked thoroughly and vegetables are tender.

Ants on a Log

Edible Necklace
This is a variation of the candy necklace that kids adore – only it’s more nutritious.
  • Your favorite cereal that can be threaded on a string

  • Raisins
  1. Thread a 9- to 12-inch piece of string through a heavy-duty needle.

  2. String up raisins and cereal, making sure the first and last items are raisins (to keep the cereal from falling off the end).

Fruity Critters
Let kids assemble these nutritious and creative snacks.
  • Apples

  • Grapes

  • Raisins

  • Toothpicks
  1. Core apple and slice into wedges.

  2. Have children use a toothpick to pin two apple slices together to form the wings of a bug.

  3. Place head on top by inserting a second toothpick into apple slices, then placing a grape or raisins on the toothpick to form a head and antennae.

  4. Once they’ve mastered this critter, kids will naturally discover all kinds of critters to create.
