Emergency Preparedness
It's Time To Get Ready

There’s any number of ways our normal lives can be turned upside down. A blizzard, ice storm, tornado, earthquake or hurricane may interrupt power and water service for days, maybe even weeks. Our own government officials have said that citizens need to be prepared with supplies to help them through at least 72 hours of utility interruption. Coleman helps you be prepared for outdoor activity, but we can also help you be prepared should an emergency arise.

At Coleman, we believe it's time for all of us to take action. So we've created a checklist called
The Basics. It includes the absolute necessities to have on hand before the storm season starts.

With these things in the house, a family should be prepared to cope with power outages and other storm-related issues in relative comfort and safety. The list includes many of the things that are in your home as part of daily life. The Basics is a reminder to check to see if they're really there and in usable condition. It is also a wake-up call to go out and get what's missing from the list and do it now.

In addition to The Basics, we've pulled together a wide selection of Coleman® products that are useful to have on-hand for various emergencies. These items are available online and through select retailers nationwide.

Emergency Gear

The Basics begins with a call for common sense. Listen to all warnings and take them seriously. It continues with a dozen checkpoints of items that would really be missed if they weren't available during a hurricane or other disaster.

  • Fresh water and non-perishable, non-refrigerated food for at least three days
  • Flashlights, lanterns and extra batteries or fuel
  • Portable stove and fuel
  • First aid kit and medicines
  • Special items for babies, the elderly and pets
  • Sleeping bags, pillows, airbeds and manual or battery-powered pump
  • Raingear and sturdy footwear
  • Tools for simple repairs
  • A charged cell phone
  • A battery-powered radio or TV
  • Enough cash for at least three days
  • A working car with a full gas tank
