Rated 1 out of 5 by john sl from Coleman steel belted cooler The product arrive it was dented in several places I was not happy with the return policy as they had to receive the product back before sending me a new one which didn’t coincide with my vacation plans and it worked out for the best cause I felt the overall quality of the product was very low in spite of the price. my family had a Coleman steel cooler when I was young I was hoping it would be the same I do not think this product was very well-made it seemed very cheap and honestly I was very disappointed as I do enjoy most other Coleman products I hope Coleman upsets game with this product and puts out a better product and then I will buy it

Rated 5 out of 5 by Greenturf from Saved The Day!! I have always been a Coleman fan since my childhood camping with my family. We always had Coleman camp gear and it never let us down. I inadvertently proved the Coleman durability again while on a recent 4 wheeling trip. I love 4 wheeling and have 2 Coleman Steel Belted Coolers on a rack on the back of my rock crawler. I was attempting a difficult line up this granite slab and the next thing I saw was blue sky. I thought for sure I was going over backwards, but I stopped just past vertical THANKS to my Coleman Cooler!! The cooler miraculously kept me from rolling over backwards. Unfortunately the cooler got bent up pretty bad, but I was very happy to not be laying on my roof. There is no question in my mind that the Coleman Coolers saved the day. Thank you for building a quality product that stands up to the abuse of the rugged outdoors and crazy adventurous people like me!!

Each time the awards are more expensive. For my 15 years service I chose this cooler because it stated up to 4 days staying cold. It doesn't. Ice is melted by the end of 1st day. Still cold into the 2nd day but you have to drain water and add more ice. My lighter plastic cooler with wheels did just as good. Soooooo disappointed.

The lid will open all the way around and ends up tearing up the lid and bending the hinges if this happens. definite design flaw. In the end put a little more with the money and buy a product that will last I have only had min a couple of months and now lid wont even shut. I love the looks of the cooler but thats about all it has going for it

Rated 2 out of 5 by Dan M from Perfect Concept, Poor Execution I purchased a black version of this cooler, because it was on clearance at Cabela's for 50% off, I assume because no one would want a black cooler. I painted the lid white and this added a day to how long I could keep my beers cold, average of four days sitting in the back of my truck. The Good; The shape of the cooler is perfect, and the size is also perfect. I can fit a whole 30pk of cans in the cooler with a 40lb bag of ice, keeps them cold all weekend. I also like the locking latch, this keeps the lip from popping open when driving around, also helps to create a good seal. The handles are secured with rivets and I have not had any issues with them coming loose. The Bad; The cooler is constructed of a plastic tub, wrapped in styrofoam, then wrapped in a thin layer of steel. This is not the problem. The problem is that the hinges and latch are only attached to the cooler with self tapping screws that go into the sheet metal, so it is not possible to get them tight without stripping out the hole. Most of the display models had loose screws on the hinges and latch, I had to use some epoxy under the latch and hinges, then screw them down and let them sit to keep them tight. Otherwise I was tightening them up and readjusting them once a day. It would be much better if there was a backer plate for them to screw into or they were riveted in place like the handle. Also the female part of the latch is very flimsy, there is a thin plastic clip inside the handle that the latch hooks into. It would be nice if the top part of the handle/latch assemble was one piece to provide a more secure hold. In the end, I have had this cooler for two seasons and with a few minor mods I can say it is fairly robust and suits my needs perfectly.

Keeps ice as expected but two weeks after I bought it the latch broke. Customer service offered to sell me a latch kit. Another disappointing product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by The Lash from Nice Cooler... But Unfinished This is a very fine cooler. However, the only way ice will last for 4 days in this thing is if you bury it in a snowbank. When I got this cooler and used it, we stocked up on ice for the approaching hurricane (we live in Florida, the name of the hurricane is irrelevant). After two days, I noticed the cooler had leaked bigtime. Upon inspection, I noticed there was no bushing on the drain plug. So I removed the drain plug assembly, installed a [tight-fitting] rubber o-ring, re-installed the assembly, and it now works great. No leaks! The cooler is a bit overpriced considering the assembly was obviously incomplete.

Rated 5 out of 5 by fenterson from NASCAR View Finder I use my cooler for a better view at NASCAR and NHRA events. I'm over 200 lbs and it keeps my drinks cold and nearby while standing on it. The lock is mis-aligned but that's OK. Bungee cords strung together keep things cold. Prudome, Glidden, K. Bernstein, C. Kalitta, Muldowney, Waltrip, B.Elliott, 3 Allison's, D. Earnhart to name a few of the racers that these coolers have witnessed. I had a red one from the 70's with the bottle opener on the end that got ripped off while I was in the restroom at Rockinghan, NC., so I replaced it with the green one in the late eighties. Miss that red one though.

Or when we arrived at our vacation to find our luggage soaked where it leaks! Tip put your ice in Ziplock bags to contain water! Sad that they charged the price they do for such poor quality!

Yep - I have one of those mega insulated coolers too and they work great - BUT, they are seriously heavy. This steel belted cooler fits in the back of the SUV, easy to open, easy to fill - holds a lot of food and beverages. Seriously glad I got this and highly recommend to anyone who would want one. I have gotten TONS of compliments on how good it looks plus works so well. Highly recommend.

The product is the best for trips to the beach, camping, tailgates, or even if the fridge goes out! I've had mine for a few years and it has a few dings and dents but it gives the cooler that much more character. The large capacity fits everything you need for a weekend outing and keeps things cold for hours. It's a good looking product and yearns to be on an adventure. In fact, I think I'm going to take my cooler to the beach right now! :)

Cannot say that I've used it a lot...I'm an avid outdoorsman/hunter/fisherman from the Midwest but I usually take single trips, so I have not needed this 54qt cooler. I have, however, camped and done day trips with my wife and new baby daughter and this cooler is not worth your time. It will hold a 10lb bag of ice with 10-12 items in it for roughly 24 hours if you don't open it, which is not bad. MY BIG COMPLAINT, AND THE REASON YOU SHOULDN'T BUY THIS COOLER, is the steel belt. The female end of the steel belt latch mechanism is plastic and wears faster than a pair of underwear. I can, with two fingers, easily pop open the lid as it's "locked". The product description says it will handle all sorts of bumps in the road, but can it handle this bump of a scathing review?? As I said, I normally don't take this big cooler, so I have only used it five or six times in the last two years, but the latch is already worthless. A steel belt latch should last longer, no?? Attached are photos to show that the part of the 'steel' belting mechanism is indeed plastic. Should've paid more attention to it when I bought it! It's not my dad's generation of Coleman, that's for sure! You all would be better off spending the extra $50-$75 and upgrading to a roto-molded cooler. I will be.

Rated 3 out of 5 by midwest_jessw from Sturdy but easily dented My husband got this for Father’s Day. He is all about nostalgia so whatever his grandfather had we have to have for our camping trips. This cooler is beautiful and has plenty of room to keep your items cold for days. It is heavy but that’s because it’s metal. I have 2 issues with it. I do wish they would take the classics and make them even better. A latch with a lock on the front to make it harder for animals and kids to get in would be great and adding some wheels would make this classic even better. The metal dents really really easily. We have a couple dents just from when we were packing up the car. It still looks great but my husband is a perfectionist so when it has dents in it he gets a little nervous with the kids around it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by masel from Beautiful and does an exceptional job! We had seen this cooler in the outlet over two years ago and just loved the retro colors, but didn't buy one. After we left the store my husband and I agreed we should have bought it since we have one that is at least 40 years old and the bottom of it is starting to crack and deteriorate. It had served us very well! On our way to Louisiana to visit friends this spring, we decided to stop and buy one. We are so glad we did! Our friends had a crawfish boil the next day. In the morning we equally filled two coolers (our new Steel Belted Coleman and a cooler our friends had) with soft drinks, beer and ice and put them on their enclosed porch. The next morning when we went to empty the coolers, the Steel Belted Coleman still had ice and their cooler had a puddle of warm water. This beautiful Steel Belted Coleman now goes with us on every trip we make! We just love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by acoffeejunky from Durable, affordable and super nostalgic We have a 1969 Aristocrat Land Liner and didn't want to put "new" accessories in it. I purchased the green so it would go better with the appliances in the camper and it is almost the exact same green as the one my parents still have (30+ years old). Lightweight enough so you don't struggle to carry it, but durable enough to have your kids kick it down the front stairs and it thankfully doesn't show any signs of the incident. I've seen reviews that talk about the plastic handle and locking mechanism falling apart or not latching property. To avoid any issues I checked all the screws on the handle before loading it up. To date I haven't had any issues with the handle, lock or ice retention. I do wish the finish wasn't textured but that is a minor complaint. Over all I am extremely happy with the purchase and we will most likely be getting another one that is just for drinks.
