Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved The Day!! I have always been a Coleman fan since my childhood camping with my family. We always had Coleman camp gear and it never let us down. I inadvertently proved the Coleman durability again while on a recent 4 wheeling trip. I love 4 wheeling and have 2 Coleman Steel Belted Coolers on a rack on the back of my rock crawler. I was attempting a difficult line up this granite slab and the next thing I saw was blue sky. I thought for sure I was going over backwards, but I stopped just past vertical THANKS to my Coleman Cooler!! The cooler miraculously kept me from rolling over backwards. Unfortunately the cooler got bent up pretty bad, but I was very happy to not be laying on my roof. There is no question in my mind that the Coleman Coolers saved the day. Thank you for building a quality product that stands up to the abuse of the rugged outdoors and crazy adventurous people like me!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Buy a Coleman Marine Cooler instead I have had this cooler for 4 years. I have a Jeep with zero air conditioning or air flow so I need this daily in our typical humid New Jersey summers. I'd return my black steal belted cooler if I could. I would get a Coleman Marine Cooler instead. This steel belted cooler looks nice, but the paint is already rusting 4 years after very moderate use. The exterior dents easily. The ice retention is 2.5 days at the most. Thank goodness there's a drain. This was an impulse buy that I regret. If I'd have done the research I'd have gotten something else. Just because this looks good doesn't means it performs well. Goodluck everyone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks neat, not durable. I remember growing up and having these around our house. They were great back when they cared about quality. Keeps ice as expected but two weeks after I bought it the latch broke. Customer service offered to sell me a latch kit. Another disappointing product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lid broke and latch never worked not worth it the latch on the cooler never worked seems like its there more for looks. The lid will open all the way around and ends up tearing up the lid and bending the hinges if this happens. definite design flaw. In the end put a little more with the money and buy a product that will last I have only had min a couple of months and now lid wont even shut. I love the looks of the cooler but thats about all it has going for it

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaking after 6 months After six months of owning the cooler it started leaking from the bottom. Seems like the seal between the bottom section and body has split and water leaks out of it. Tried taking it back to the store but they wouldn't replace it. Had to throw it away, what a waste.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap and nothing like the old steel coolers. The plastic handle and the latch doesn't close. I would never recommend this cooler and will be returning it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NASCAR View Finder I use my cooler for a better view at NASCAR and NHRA events. I'm over 200 lbs and it keeps my drinks cold and nearby while standing on it. The lock is mis-aligned but that's OK. Bungee cords strung together keep things cold. Prudome, Glidden, K. Bernstein, C. Kalitta, Muldowney, Waltrip, B.Elliott, 3 Allison's, D. Earnhart to name a few of the racers that these coolers have witnessed. I had a red one from the 70's with the bottle opener on the end that got ripped off while I was in the restroom at Rockinghan, NC., so I replaced it with the green one in the late eighties. Miss that red one though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product love it Exactly what my campers needed. They had troubles last year camping with their old cooler. I decided to go a little old school with them and get the original campers cool r.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old School and Love it!!! Found one on sale at Cabelas. Had some birthday money to spare. Man - awesome cooler. Great for travel - holds ice for days. Yep - I have one of those mega insulated coolers too and they work great - BUT, they are seriously heavy. This steel belted cooler fits in the back of the SUV, easy to open, easy to fill - holds a lot of food and beverages. Seriously glad I got this and highly recommend to anyone who would want one. I have gotten TONS of compliments on how good it looks plus works so well. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty and does the job! We were camping and wanted a cooler for picnics. We bought the turquoise and placed ice in it the first night. During the week long trip, that ice lasted about 3.5 days. The cold water would have kept stuff cold for a while longer, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic, efficient and durable I use mine regularly for a beverage cooler. I grill outdoors every week, for family and friends, and can always count on my Coleman Steel Belted Coolers keeping my beverages icy cold!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Classic that is still SOLID! The 54 quart steel belted cooler is a Coleman classic. The product is the best for trips to the beach, camping, tailgates, or even if the fridge goes out! I've had mine for a few years and it has a few dings and dents but it gives the cooler that much more character. The large capacity fits everything you need for a weekend outing and keeps things cold for hours. It's a good looking product and yearns to be on an adventure. In fact, I think I'm going to take my cooler to the beach right now! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 40+ year old steel belted cooler! I do not own a new version of this cooler...but! I am 50 years old...my parents have a coleman steel belted cooler and they have owned it since I was in the "single digits" old. Guessing I would say that I was 7 when they got it. They still own this cooler and it is still the best cooler at keeping things cold...far above any other brand on the market! Some of the inner plastic liner has chipped off thru the years and you can see the foam inside but it is amazing. This is why I buy everything I can for our fulltime camping life from Coleman. If this cooler is anything like the olden days products from them...you will never need to buy another unless you just need more space. From the beginnings of Coleman just being the absolute best in lanterns...they have put the same excellent efforts into all their other products to this day! Giving Coleman brand 5 stars doesnt really cut it...out of 5 stars they really deserve 10!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have had my belted cooler since 1969 Have been using my cooler since 1969. That's right . Fifty years. The drain gave up about ten years ago so I put a bolt in it. Still holds ice for about 3 or 4 days. Not bad for about 25 buck in '69.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from memories This cooler brings back memories of camping as a kid. I was hoping for a good cooler and this one is great. It keeps ice for at least 24 hours. Took tent camping and it kept my food cold for 2 days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and does an exceptional job! We had seen this cooler in the outlet over two years ago and just loved the retro colors, but didn't buy one. After we left the store my husband and I agreed we should have bought it since we have one that is at least 40 years old and the bottom of it is starting to crack and deteriorate. It had served us very well! On our way to Louisiana to visit friends this spring, we decided to stop and buy one. We are so glad we did! Our friends had a crawfish boil the next day. In the morning we equally filled two coolers (our new Steel Belted Coleman and a cooler our friends had) with soft drinks, beer and ice and put them on their enclosed porch. The next morning when we went to empty the coolers, the Steel Belted Coleman still had ice and their cooler had a puddle of warm water. This beautiful Steel Belted Coleman now goes with us on every trip we make! We just love it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from just what I wanted I grew up with steel sided Coleman coolers in the 60s and 70s. I recently dug it out of my parents' basement, but the plastic was smelly and brittle, and not really usable any longer. I was happy to be able to still buy a classic style steel sided cooler. Thanks!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I was a sucker for the retro look... I paid way too much money for a cooler not to keep ice cold and then to break three months after I bought it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable, affordable and super nostalgic We have a 1969 Aristocrat Land Liner and didn't want to put "new" accessories in it. I purchased the green so it would go better with the appliances in the camper and it is almost the exact same green as the one my parents still have (30+ years old). Lightweight enough so you don't struggle to carry it, but durable enough to have your kids kick it down the front stairs and it thankfully doesn't show any signs of the incident. I've seen reviews that talk about the plastic handle and locking mechanism falling apart or not latching property. To avoid any issues I checked all the screws on the handle before loading it up. To date I haven't had any issues with the handle, lock or ice retention. I do wish the finish wasn't textured but that is a minor complaint. Over all I am extremely happy with the purchase and we will most likely be getting another one that is just for drinks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Little Red cooler thwarts the Big Bad Wolf Purchased first Coleman products, Gas camp stove and Gas lantern, about 40 years ago. Thru the years other Coleman products have been added to enhance the experence of out door recreation including the Red Steel Belted Cooler. This cooler has served me well in the numerous excursions it has been taken on. Latching mechanism has keep many nocturnal critters from helping them selves to a free meal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Grew up with the best Years ago, many years ago my Dad owned this Steel Belted Colman Cooler. For years this cooler went with us for a day at the lake and camping weekends in the mountains. One day at the lake, someone decided they liked that cooler and removed it from the truck bed. We sure missed that cooler, it was with us for many years. I highly recommend this Steel Belted Cooler.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful reminds me of camping with my grandparents when I was young. Well built cooler and just keeps food cold. We love it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the look and the ability to keep cool Love this cooler! We have had this for 3 years and it still is in amazing condition. The powder blue retro look is awesome. The cooler keeps things cold and ice stays in this well. It’s nice to see there are coolers that are as technically pleasing and keeps things cool. The Yeti that everyone loves is honestly hideous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A legacy renewed I wanted to replace my OLD steel Coleman cooler with a closure lock that broke about 30 years ago, but it keeps ice for at least 8 days when I'm off the grid. I needed a new Coleman cooler that stands up to this reputation. EUREKA! This steel belted cooler lives up to its legacy! It stays cold over a week!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Latch makes the difference Looking at this cooler takes me back to when I was a very young boy. My father had a Coleman cooler that he mounted on the tongue of our old camper to save space and keep our food. Well we took a trip to Yellowstone national park and of course there are bears there. So one night while we were sleeping a bear decided to roam the campgrounds and decided our cooler was a good source for food. The bear as clever as they are figured out how to flip the latch to open the cooler and get our food. Funny thing is there were two fresh trout in the cooler but all the bear wanted was the eggs and butter ! True story I swear. The cooler did NOT sustain any damage and we enjoyed the remainder of our vacation. The cooler did hold our food well and kept temperatures low enough that we never had any spoilage - except the bear ! I have also donated my beloved 50 quart wheeled cooler to my daughter so she can transport groceries to her apartment from wherever she has to park (she is a renter in the city) and she loves the ease and portability while keeping her food safe

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely the best While it may not keep ice the longest, it excels at taking you back to old memories of camping with dad. The steel construction is tops and mine is already gathering stickers from all of the places me and my kids have camped.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Keeps food cold for days Went camping with my family in July and my cooler kept the old good and cold where as the other coolers wasn’t good , had to keep buying ice . Only problem we have had is the lid latch broke and I need to get it replaced
