Rated 1 out of 5 by Robin from Not an Improvement over the Original! I recently discovered, to my dismay, that Coleman no longer offers the original grate for the RoadTrip Grill. I had ordered a grate as an addition to my grill and thought they had made a mistake and sent me the wrong one when I opened the package. Research revealed that this was their new and improved style, so I figured I had no choice. It didn't take long to see that is was NOT an improvement. The original grate is lightweight with a smooth, non-stick surface that is easy to clean and heats quickly. The new model is an 8 1/2 pound monster with a rough surface that everything sticks to and takes a lot of effort to clean. I have made a point to never grill fish on that one again as it requires a flexible metal spatula to rescue a filet from it. How Coleman thought it would be an improvement to make a heavier grate for a grill that is supposed to be portable is beyond me. I hate the stupid thing and it will probably last forever.

I thought I would receive an identical grill grate as came with our Road Trip LX grill. The original is lightweight, non-stick and very easy to clean. This HEAVY cast iron is so much less fun to haul around and not quite as easy to wipe off as the original. I searched and searched hoping you could order more of the exact grate that comes with the grill, but this appears to be it. While it works, I'm disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jerry from Well made I purchased this grill grate to go with the Road Trip Grill that I bought late last year.Although I will not use it until I start RV-ing later this spring, the grate seems to be well made. I will caution though, it's cast iron, and if it is dropped on a hard surface, it will shatter like glass. That's what cast iron does. So, to prevent this, do not drop it on a hard surface!

I don't know what they mean by &quot;porcelain coated&quot; but it looks like straight cast iron to me, so I followed the typical reseasoning process: steel wool off the rust spots, a light coat of grapeseed oil all over, put in the oven, turn on to 425 (maybe 450 I forget), leave them in for an hour (ignore the smell), then let them set for another 2-3 hours until they cool. I did that like 3 or 4 times and they're more non-stick now when they were brand new. Now after we use them, we clean them like cast iron and add a light coat of oil before we put them away. It's been a year-plus so far and they've been in really good shape.
