Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lantern I purchased 25 of these for Christmas gifts. Please, read the directions, inserting and changing the D batteries is not rocket science, but you should be gentle as you open and close the underside of the base. The light output is incredible and the option to choose the strength of the beam is a fabulous way to save batteries. And the batteries don't corrode in the lantern since the power down when not in use. Plus they are cool looking and compact. This was our Christmas gift for 2021 for 25 people after Dallas Texas suffered a crippling power outage in the February 2021 winder freeze. We won't be caught off guard again... peace of mind you can buy for a decent price. Don't deal with the shoddy stuff with fake reviews you see online. These are also carried in real stores which underscores the value. Thank you Coleman for decades of outstanding quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All the Light you could need I have bought 3 of the 800L models now and they just work so well, To do an honest test I bought some average basic batteries and put them in the first one I bought and it is now been running for 117 hours+ and that includes a lot of playing with it and showing it to people, I am so impressed with the 800L/BG that I bought another 2 just for luck, This lantern about as good as a fueled lantern and it is a lot safer for use indoors or in a Tent or Camper, It's not a replacement for a fueled lantern but life is about options and thats a good thing. In a Powerout these Lanterns are incredible because they will light up a very large rood indeed, In 15-25 foot Camper Trailer you are going to be glad it has a low and medium settings, In a minivan/MPV Camper Low is all you will ever need. Other really Great features are a simple Rotary 4 position switch so no need to keep pressing buttons to control the brightness along with a sleek modern design so it never looks out of place in a home or car etc, The handle is Rubber coated and I found a really good use for it, When you have the Tailgate up and want a safe place to hang the lantern Slot the Handle in to the Latch of the Tailgate and let it hang there and to release it just hit the button on your Key remote and press/pull the Tailgate release while supporting the Lantern and it comes free, Simples. Some folks have had an issue with the battery base Well if you look inside the battery compartment you will see an odd shaped Tube and if you look at the Battery Base it also has an odd shaped tube which slots inside the one in the battery compartment, Align the two shapes up and Slot the Base one in to the other and turn the lantern upside down and gently push them together and twist the Base 1/2-3/4" Clockwise and you're Done, Easy Peasy. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Crap product. What happened to the Coleman brand I see similar reviews to my issue of not being able to open the battery cover. I now have 2 crappy "modern" Coleman lanterns. The older one has a "rechargeable" lithium ion battery where the outlet in the base where you plug in the recharge cord fell into the unit and there is no way of getting it back out short of destroying the whole lantern. I now have this piece of crap where I cannot open the bottom to replace the batteries. I will never buy a Coleman product again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best battery powered lantern! I love this lantern! I seems really well built and worked well for a week long camping trip. So bright and is perfect for use inside a test. I didn't experience any of the issues that other people had with the battery compartment; it opens easily every time. To be fair, the battery compartment could be designed better. If you don't follow the instructions, you can jam the battery compartment shut. If it doesn't seem to close easily, don't force it, because you are probably doing it wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good backup lighting Easy and intuitive control, 3 positions plus off. I have not verified the battery life but the documentation indicates it should be pretty good, I do like the top control, very simple to use. Fairly easy to add batteries, the bottom compartment opens up to install the D cells.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from rain will pool around the switch The switch is designed with potential problems which I couldn't overlook. The switch is recessed in a dimple/divet on top of the lantern. I see water pooling there if there is rain. It's IPX4 but I'm not sure that's enough for a rotating switch with water around it.
