Take some cold drinks on your next road trip while leaving the ice at home with a Coleman® 40 Quart PowerChill™ Thermoelectric Cooler. More than a cooler, but not quite a refrigerator, it cools up to 40 °F below the surrounding temperature without any ice. So if you use your cooler in an environment where the temperature is 70 °F, this cooler will maintain an internal temperature around 30 °F. You can use it like you would any other cooler except, instead of throwing ice inside, you simply plug in the 12V car power adaptor. Then add your pre-chilled drinks and snacks. Your cooler will reach maximum coldness in about three hours (you can speed this up by adding Coleman® ice substitutes) and stay cold as long as it's plugged in. Large enough to hold 44 cans, you'll have plenty of space for refreshments for the whole trip, and you can keep all your contents organized with the storage tray. It fits easily into almost any vehicle, especially since you can lay it down for use as a chest cooler or turn it upright to fit in narrower spaces. The door converts to open from the right or left sides to offer even more placement flexibility. No matter where you set it up or how far you travel, with this cooler, you can always be sure to have some cold refreshments on hand to keep you going during your adventure.

Cheap and disposableThe fan on the outside of the cooler is the first failure point, usually at about the 6 month range. The fan on the inside seems to last longer, and fails around 9 months to year from my experience. By replacing the fans with 12v computer fans I have managed to get one cooler to function well past a year. but that is the only way that I have seen to get it to last that long.

Versatile and ConvenientUsing it standing up or on its side, there's plenty of room for all your essentials to stay cold during the drive and at your destination for your entire trip. The motor is not loud and no need to keep buying ice every other day. You really need to get the adapter too so that you can plug it in when you get to your destination, as it only comes with the cable to connect to your 12V car plug. The unique thing about this cooler is that you can change the door to open it from the other direction if you want it to. The only thing lacking is the ability to carry it easily when it is in the standing up position. The handgrips it has are for carrying it in the side position. Really a must-have to compliment your essentials for camping, RVing, boating, etc.

Not cool!first year were cool about 30° below ambient temperature. And no matter what I do I cannot get it to cool more than 10° now. There are no service Emanuels nor parts available.
Dear Coleman, Consider adding additional cooling on opposite side increasing the size of the cooling plates (not just heat synk) and adding a X ternal adjustable control on your lower models and upper model with built in internal digital readout of internal thermometer. Yes, This will make it a refrigerator. Also, if you use close cell foam we might be able to also get better cooling efficiency.

Great for over the road driversWhile it is not intended to operate 24/7, this cooler does extremely well. It cools 40 degrees below ambient air so it will freeze contents if the a/c is blasting. I found it will cool more efficiently if you can get it off the hot floor or set it on a rug.
The secret to longevity is to remove the fan housing and blow the fan with your air gun. A good indication is when the inside fan housing starts to ice up.
Try to keep the contents between 32-40 degrees so the food doesn’t spoil. If you get a year out of it running 24-7 you’ve gotten your money’s worth.

Works fine for my use.I use it year-round in the back of my Subaru Outback, lying flat with the cover on top, plugged into the electric plug there. It keeps things cool in the summer and keeps from freezing in the winter. It,of course, is only powered when the car is running, so things do warm up a bit over-night, though not a lot.

DisappointedThis cooler was a replacement for one identical just different model. I had the old one for more than ten years, I replaced 3 fans during that time. This cooler is less than 2 years old and I'm already on my third power cord. I ruined one trying to remove burnt fuse, second one was being used, plug got hot bumped against dash plug shattered. I just plugged in number three on Monday and it blew fuse on Thursday. Truly disappointed.
