Rated 1 out of 5 by from Weak Tent Poles We were very pleased when we set this shelter up for the first time as a test in our back yard, one month ago. Easy setup, great shade potential, compact carrying case. It seemed perfect for out upcoming beach vacation. First day on the beach on Topsail Island was perfect. Everyone in our group were very impressed by the shelter. We had to take it down each day due to local beach rules. On the third day, we discovered two main pole sections had splintered (see photos). The wind on the beach was never greater than 10 mph. We were able to duct tape the pole sections together and still use the shelter, but each subsequent day, another pole section splintered for a total of 6 splintered sections. We stop using the tent on the 6th day. We were very disappointed with the quality of the main poles. The shorter, black ceiling poles held of fine. Hoping that Coleman will honor their warranty on this brand new item.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Screendome Shelter is best we've had in years! We bought this dome shelter for camping and are very pleased with the design! It is spacious enough to give us room to walk around a standard picnic table without bumping into the sides. You can unzip the screens at two places on each side so you aren't limited to just two entrances. The two detachable panels were a big help in keeping the rain off of our table and they also kept the heat inside on cool mornings. My only complaint is that it was hard to get the poles to bend enough to attach the built-in clips that are on the corners. We ended up leaving several of them unattached but it didn't seem to matter. It was a little tricky for the two of us to get set up. The shelter looks really nice and is very sturdy. I'm glad we purchased this one!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The good and the could be better Good: sturdy, 4 large access doors, multiple stake points, unzipped the breeze really comes through, pockets in corners for storage Could be better: Very hard to set up, better if all or some doors zipped in the middle, too heavy - should use lighter poles, poles ends should be color coded to match with insertion holes, no door tie backs Overall - will get the job done. Typical Coleman quality and design

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Found the secret to setup Purchased this to be covered kitchen area during camping. When trying it for the first time to be used at my daughter's birthday party found it extremely difficult to set up despite youtube videos which made it seem easy. I snapped a pole but used to duct tape to make it work for the party. Here's the secret: spread it out as best you can. Thread all poles through sleeves but don't secure them, complete the roof setup using the black poles to form the ached ceiling. Choose a side, have a tall friend hole up the side at the center of the screened archway as high overhead as possible. My wife is 5'11 and when she did that I had no problem bending the poles to form the arch and secure the ends in the pins at the corners without breaking. Move to opposite side and repeat, then repeat for remaining sides. Multiple setups and no more snapped poles. It has withstood heavy rain and wind when staked properly. The only criticism I have is why on earth does it only come with 2 wind screens especially when others aren't even available to purchase separately.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't break the poles Nice shelter and works great, but seems to be a major problem with breaking poles and can't get replacements.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Terrible quality and customer service I purchased this a few years ago to replace a large, bulky metal pop up canopy. It gets used at most twice a summer for maybe a total of 10 days a year. I really love the design and functionality of this screendome shelter. I hate how every time I set it up something breaks on it. After the first use I noticed that one of the stake loops was coming apart and one of the guylines was fraying. I sent an email to customer service about the issues and never received a response. Since then, several of the loops have fallen off and one of the poles has split. It's still usable but I seriously question how much longer it will hold up. Very disappointing given that this is one of the more expensive screen shelter options.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from road trip dodge grand caravan I can back my 2017 caravan up to an open side of this shelter and lift the rear hatch/ tailgate almost exactly- within an inch or so- it fits perfectly as an extension of the interior van space. When the rear is closed I can drive right out without having to move the tent. We have some built in camping gear to make the van aini camper and this shelter can extend that bug free space so long as we are careful- the sides of the van leave about a 5-6" gap on either side. We can zip up one side of the screen and pull the other side close to the van before staking it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great set up & pretty quick Very happy 1st time used, lot's of room for several people including stroller/pack & play.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice large shelter I bought this as an outdoor "living room" shelter for my teardrop camper. It's very roomy and can completely enclose my camper. As others have indicated, it's a little difficult to setup, mainly because the poles are difficult to get in-and-out of the tent sleeves due to a sharp edge on the aluminum ferrels. This is not a deal-breaker due to the fact that the product is reasonably priced and represents a decent value. I could give this shelter a four star rating if for the fact that I can't purchase additional wall panels, I'll need to manufacture my own. I wish that Coleman would sell additional panels for this product and for that reason, I wish that I had looked for something else for my purpose. If one is fully satisfied without replacing parts, then I could recommend this shelter with reservations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great shelter, pole broke A bit hard to set up, four people helps, but it can be done with two. Take down is much easier. The size is great, and the sides are near vertical, so less rain comes in. Fits nicely over a picnic table with room to go around. Zippered doors on all four sides. Two sun shields. The tent is too taut. The sewing looks like it's ready to pull out, it's so tight. The polls are bent almost to breaking. Well, on the third usage, one did break.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good product but—— This is a great product the tent part I can’t fault the erecting takes me less than ten minutes but the poles that are supplied don’t seem to match the quality of the rest of the product. They felt inadequate on the first occasion of putting the dome up but on the second the inevitable happened and one of the poles cracked shame really because apart from this issue it’s a great product. Also not easy to acquire spare poles.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love the design but not the quality I love the design of this screen shelter with the options of using the screens or keeping them all open. The sun shades are great as well although I wish you could purchase extras. The cons for me are that after 2 season of light use we now have pin size holes in the roof and a ripped bag. We are not rough on the shelter or bag and have only set this up for a few times a year for 3-4 day trips in nice weather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, functional, base camp essential 3rd season of heavy use... this has held up to strong winds, hale, rain and blazing desert heat. I highly recommend this shade structure. May take you a few times to really get the hang of set up, but once it it clicks for you its awesome and easy to set up. Two people make it easier to set up (kind of a must) and 3-4 people(kids to) make it a breeze.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great for car camping This is one of my best buys. It works great over a campsite table. I have used this product about 7 times. The last time though the poles split which I see in the reviews I should have been keeping an eye on it. We are about to go on another camp trip so I will be bringing some duct tape and enforcing this shelter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Our Fish Bowl Love, love, this tent. We have a lot of fun with this dome tent and have left it up since last spring. Sure it has flaws like all the other tents and shelters. Only regret is we didn't buy two. One for the beach and one for the yard. We have owned many tents and shelters over 30 years.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Coleman needs to rethink pole material . Any sustained wind twists the poles and tent becomes useless. I like the size and design of the tent but the poles are completely inadequate for windy days. Upgraded poles would make this tent four stars , but at present I rate it at two stars! Coleman you’re better than this .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for fending off the Wisconsin mosquitos Easy to set up - two people can do it, three people makes it the easiest. Great for shade during the day and saves you from the bugs at night. We still havent figured out the best way to fold it up, but the case is roomy enough to handle our best attempt.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Versatile, but challenging for 1 person set up The Mountain View 12 x 12 Screendome Shelter is well made, clever with features and garners many compliments on its appearance. The one drawback, and it is a big one - it is a bear to assemble. I watched the Coleman video that claims it is a ten minute assembly over and over to prepare myself. It does show two people doing the work. I am, however, a party of one. I also read so many reviews about how to get the job done. I can tell you without hesitating, do NOT follow others' advice... only Coleman's. For example, do not unzip anything, do loosely stake the corners, do install the small top poles first. I did a practice assembly at home with trips inside to check the computer directions...it took me 2.5 hours. At the campsite, it took me 1.5 hours....BUT, at first I did not stake the corners. Now that it is September, I will have to wait til next year to see if I can assemble it in a reasonable time. I know that I love its versatility and ventilation...with the option of screening off two sides for privacy or blocking the wind.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth it The fiberglass poles brake after only 4 uses spread over 3 years. Now I have a useless tarp and a pile of useless poles. Kind of expensive for 4 uses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from When you understand it, you'll LOVE it We have had this dome shelter for 2 summers and have used it in many different camping situations so I'm confident when I tell you it can hold up to a lot of abuse by the wind. Right now, after using it about 10 times in windy, rainy conditions it is still in great shape and I see us being able to use it at least a few more years. Yes, it has 2 poles that have split. Duct tape to the rescue, not a problem anymore. They split because we tried to muscle the thing together instead of doing it the proper way. Our fault. Other than that, the thing has survived massive wind without collapse, coming unstaked and blowing (tumbling) across the campground like Mary Poppins' umbrella (thank goodness for our good Samaritan neighbors who carried it back and plopped it back down over our stuff-good to go), and a LOT of rain. We use it with our teardrop trailer (usually) and it is a comfortable space next to the trailer. With the screened in sides we can use it as a living room/dining room and sometimes, if it's really rainy, we park the trailer underneath it and keep it cozy and dry!! This past weekend though we roughed it in the 1000 Islands region of NY and brought it via a 14 ft aluminum fishing boat to an water only access campsite. Because it's in such a manageable little carry bag, we got it to the campsite easily, and used it with 2 cots instead of a tent. The cots and 2 chairs kept all of our stuff (and us!) off the ground with plenty of room to spare and since it rained (as usual when we camp), we were comfortable AND dry. I have 2 suggestions for the folks at Coleman regarding this awesome shelter: 1. provide 4 removable wall panels instead of only 2. I'm here at your website to see if I can order 2 more because sometimes we need to use all 4 2. rewrite the assembly instructions. They are not clear enough and it took us a few times to get the easiest process figured out. Now that we know how to do it, we get it put up in about 10 min. (This last time was totally in the dark with only one flashlight and a cellphone. We had left all our lights in the trailer, bummers.) We get a lot of compliments and questions whenever we use this pretty shelter and I can't tell people enough good things about it. Once you get the hang of putting it up, it's perfect. I'm thinking of buying another one right now in case Coleman ever decides to stop making them and saving it for the future. Thank you Coleman!!!
