Rated 5 out of 5 by DSWFL from It really is dark! We have been a camping family of 5 for 10+ years. We were so excited to try out the Coleman 8 person Darkroom tent to see if it lived up to its name! And it did! Set up was easy because the poles are already attached to the bottom of the tent so there's no chance of losing them! The setup is quick and easy. I love that you can opt to leave the top cover off and have a huge screened dome if you'd like. On nights when the weather is cooperating it would be fantastic to sleep under the stars with a beautiful view from your air mattress! Once you put the cover on it is amazing how dark it is inside. I've truly never seen a tent so dark. This is a great feature for those that have a hard time sleeping with potentially a lot of light in your camp site, but it's also great in the daytime for napping kids. Another great feature in the 8 person tent is the size! The way the sides and roof of the tent are set up to allow for adults to stand up straight and not have to awkwardly bend to move around! It have an ample amount of space for our family of 5. You can easily fit 2 queen air mattresses and still have room to move around. Coleman came out with a fantastic product when they created the dark room tent series!

I didnt realize how big until I set it up in my living room to see what exactly i was dealing with. Definitely a lot of head room, I'm 5'1" and could walk freely in it with no issue. Even my 13 year old who is 5'7" had no issue either. Can definitely fit 2 queen sized air mattresses with no problem. It truly is dark once everything is put together and I like that coleman changed the top from lime green to a darker blue so it doesnt attract as many bugs. What I dont care for is that its definitely not a 5 minute set up, even with someone helping it took about 10. It is a straightforward set up but the tent is so massive it does take time and you definitely need a helper. Also, putting it back in the bag is a little bit of a pain however the bag does have a strip you can take off to make the bag bigger and make the tent easier to put away.

Rated 4 out of 5 by TxStrong82 from Quality camping gear! An essential addition to our camping equipment, this Skydome by Coleman is better than any tent we’ve ever used! It promises 5 minute set up however, and although that wasn’t true in our case it was still made easier due to the pre attached poles. I liked that the door was wide which made it easy to get in and out and we fit 2 queen air mattresses plus four adults easily, but it can sleep 8. We didn’t experience rain yet while using it so I can’t speak to how well it weathers the storm, but I will say my favorite part of all is the Dark Room technology. I’m a light sleeper and as soon as the sun comes out I’m wide awake but thanks to this tech I was able to stay asleep longer. For once, someone else made the morning coffee!

It has a separate screen room which works well for the dog to sleep in ,and it's spacious enough for 2 air mattresses to fit for a family of 5. Without mattresses, it probably could fit about 7-8 people. It's dark room technology works well and appears to be pretty weather resistant. Pretty user friendly setup,but it's better to have a few people help with setup. All in all it is a great tent and we can't wait to use it again. It is spacious enough for camping and keeps the light out well. Will buy more from this brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ccdomin from Nice looking and durable This tent was super easy to put up and surprisingly big. It is one big room and enough to fit three queen blowup mattresses. My son that is 6ft tall stood easily. It has two poles that extend, one tent, one tent cover and one small tarp for the door. My son and I put it up easily. When the wind blew and even came off the ground at some points there were no tears. It is of course never as easy as you would hope to get it back in the bag, but not enough to matter. The tent does stay dark well after the sun rises. I would highly recommend this tent

I love that it has a removable cover so you can enjoy looking at the sky at night. It is a huge tent. We have a family of 5 and it fits everyone very comfortably. We set it up in the house so the kids could have a mini camp out since they are on spring break. They loved it.

I had the rain fly tear at the seam though during set up, also had the sleeve that the end of the main pole tear at the stitches. It seems my particular tent was sewn poorly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Teestar from A beautiful night with my family! It was FINALLY a nice weekend out to be able to use this with the family. It was me, my son, his cousin and husband out in the back wooded area of the house. There was SO much room for all of us that we were all able to stretch out. When it got dark, we set up a mini movie player to play inside the tent. It was as dark as a movie theater too! I think we all slept great with the minimum amount of lighting that got through. I am soo happy with this tent. Can't wait for more warm weather to be able to do this more.

This tent how ever ripped in two places upon first set up, this is why I gave it one less star. Something to consider before purchasing is because the dome is made out a fine permeable net in which the fly is laid over and pegged away from, the tent has very little insulation and allows the cold air to get inside very easily. This tent might not be for you if you are planning on taking it out on chilly nights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Zach W from Great large tent for car camping as a couple My wife and I bought this for just the two of us for car camping, have used it once and think it's great. We put a full size air mattress in there and still had plenty of room to stand, move around and change. I'm pictured inside the tent and am 5'10" for reference. Did a lot of looking around online, and in the end couldn't beat the price for this size of a tent. The dark room aspect was a huge bonus, though you have to have the rain fly on for that effect which does make the tent a little stuffy. Tried to use the guy lines on the rain fly to pull the fly slightly away from the sides of the tent to allow air movement, that worked pretty well. We neglected to put in the final pole at the front of the fly to give it the arch shown in the stock photo, but it came with it. Only critiques would be I would love for them to offer a footprint for this tent and the interior could have done with several more sewn in interior mesh pockets, I think it has just one set in one corner. It hasn't had to endure rain or heavy winds yet, so can't comment on those. Material and zipper seem quality and I hope they'll last a long time. Paid extra for two day shipping and that went perfectly too. Overall extremely pleased!

Misted into the tent a little between the sun cover and mesh(not overly horrible). Withstood high winds on 2 occasions. Only problem was the seam came apart on the sun cover (See photos) in the high winds. Not bad for setting up in an open feild. Just need to find a replacment cover and use it again. Dark room technology help me sleep in longer.

I'm not sure how many people could fit comfortably but it fits my family of 4 super easy with plenty of room left over. I had another coleman tent but it was the traditional dome shape so the highest point was directly in the middle and quickly got smaller as it went to the sides. Because of the shape of the tent there is more room to move around more comfortably. i am not sure of the durability of the tent as I have only had it a short while. This tent is a great buy and I would recommend it to anyone.

I waited 4-6 weeks for a replacement tent only to find out the company canceled the order due to being out of stock, and they didnt even inform me. I have now been waiting 4-6 weeks for my refund that wasn't even sent!!! Even though I have an email stating it was being sent. So now, again, I have to wait ANOTHER 4-6 weeks for my money back. What a joke of a company!!! Spend extra for quality and ended up with something that doesn't work at all, with no help from the company.

The front zipper won't zip and the dark room zippers won't zip. Coleman needs to replace my $200.00 tent. It's an 8 man dark room technology. You would think that for the price that Coleman would do something. So very unhappy with my purchase. They are suppose to be one of the best tents but it's not here.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Steve2 from Not worth the $$$ We bought this tent thinking it was a good deal. First time using it we had a storm roll through. The wind wasn't that strong; the rain was. We thought for sure the rain would soak things pretty badly. Turns out the wind was the real problem and tore our rainfly/snapped the shock cord connecting the poles (which are CONNECTED to the tent). I was able to repair the shock cord, but the rainfly literally came apart and it's easy to see why: it wasn't properly stitched. Easy replacement, right? Nope. Not even offered

It was unpacked and ready to go in less than 5 minutes, but putting it back in the carrier after use was more difficult than expected, which probably reflects more on my poor packing skills than the tent itself. I was skepical of the claim that it would be cooler (dark colors absorb heat, or so I thought) inside, but that seemed to be the case. Even though I enjoy camping, I do not enjoy getting up at first light every day, and I don't sleep well with the sun beating down on me. This blocked a ton of light, so I was able to sleep past sunrise for the first time when sleeping outdoors. Great tent and roomy. I only had 4 people in it, but definitely room for 8, maybe a little more if you have small children with you.

It had plenty of room for two air mattresses. The dark room feature was also great. We were able to sleep in for the first time ever while camping. This tent also had some great inside storage features with a safe place to put all our phones. Now for the cons. Only having one window on the door made for poor air circulation inside the tent. It got pretty hot in there. It rained on our trip, and this tent was not waterproof. It leaked pretty bad through the seam connecting the tent body to the floor as well as through the tent wall itself. Also, whenever we would open the door all the water would poor right in due to where the rainfly stopped. I wish this tent had more of a vestibule over the door.

We love how big this tent is on the inside and the ability to stand up is an awesome feature! No more struggling to change! The dark room feature is perfect! It does still let in light but not like a regular tent! Were looking forward to using this frequently all spring and summer! We love that's it's a very open space inside. Big enough for my kids, significant other and I to be inside comfortably.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Travis T. from Always the best I love my new tent. I had a smaller version already but I wanted one that I could stand in without need to bend over. This tent is perfect, plenty of headroom. Floor space enough to put a chair next to my air mattress. It was also fairly easy to set up even for its height. My friend who went camping with us had a knock off version of this tent from a major retail chain that was cheaper than my tent. At the beginning of our weekend he talked about how much money he saved and our tents were basically the same. Over the weekend his tent proceeded to self destruct and fall apart eventually totally collapsing under some medium strength wind. All the while my tent was great, 20 degrees cooler than the outside in the sun and durable enough that I will be able to use it for years to come. My friend will be buying a Coleman tent for next year.

We needed a tent for us (couple) and our dog for an upcoming camping trip, we wanted to fit a queen size air mattress and have plenty of room for our luggage and dog bed plus we wanted to be able to stand. We hesitated long and hard between the Coleman Dark Room or a larger one with multiple windows. Well, the reviews here sold us and we couldn’t be happier! This is by far one of the best 8 people tent out there! We camp in a rainforest and endure 24 hours of nonstop rain on arrival. The tent kept us dry and we were able to easily attach a tarp canopy to the front of the rain fly. The best part was showing up at family breakfast at 10:30 am and everyone asked how we managed to sleep in till 10 am. And, must I say, the tent stay dark even with the front window open in the middle of the day for breezy afternoon nap. We’re so glad the Coleman Dark Room was our pick!

I recently went camping with my family of 4 and extra family, we had 2 more adults staying with us and we all fit. Lives up to the expectations of 90% sun block, which helps keep the tent cool on hot days. I love all the extra pocket space it has. It’s pretty easy and fast to set up as well as putting back away. Can’t wait to be able to use it again

Rated 3 out of 5 by Axlenut from Almost there I want to like this tent. I wish I could love it. Overall the tent is very good. I like the shape of the poles because it makes for a lot of usable space inside. When we camp we bring a crate for our lab, and we fit just fine with a large dog crate, cots, and and mats for the three kids. The Dark Room tech is awesome. It stays DARK inside there which is perfect for getting the kids to sleep beyond 6 am when you're out in the woods in the summer. If it wasn't for these next two issues I would love this tent. Alas. First, the door zipper. In all my camping life I have never encountered such a terrible zipper. Every time I use it I have issues. Even the slightest tension on the fabric across the zipper causes it to foul and often times will pull open after the zipper pull goes by. If you pull the floor nice and tight when you stake it, the bottom of the door is nearly impossible to close. The pole for the fly over the door attaches to eyelets about half way up the tent. Those points cause tension across the middle of the door making it difficult to zip down the side. It is the worst zipper ever. The second is one of those cases that shows innovation doesn't always hit the mark. The poles are actually attached to the tent, but only at the back corners. This is touted as the "5-Minute Setup System", and it in no way lives up to that marketing hype. This is a terrible idea. It does not work. It just makes it harder to deal with the flat tent before you set it up. It makes it harder to lay out and to fold and roll when you're done. Coleman, please do not repeat this feature. It is terrible. I modified the connections so I could remove the poles when I'm putting the tent away. Anyway, if it wasn't for the Dark Room feature I would kick this tent to the curb just because it's such a pain to deal with the down sides.

I love how the tent even blocks out sunlight from coming in. It’s so nice especially for people who like sleeping in while camping, and it’s very spacious, lots of room. I have a family of 5 and we fit and STILL have a lot of space. I highly recommend this tent for camping. Such good quality. ❤️

There's a lot of room inside and you can easily put an air mattress inside too! The dark room technology is great! It blocks out the sun really well and it didn't get hot inside either. I am loving this tent! It makes me want to plan another camping trip already!!

It easily fit my husband and my two children along with space for our stuff. It was very durable yet breathable for the warmer nights. I was also impressed at how well it kept out light. It will be great for sleeping in on summer mornings.

I have not yet used it for camping since it is early still for places to open up to go camping. I am counting down the days to take this tent so I can officially use it for camping. It is quite spacious and I love the color blue that is in it. I highly recommend it because it is super easy to set up and take down.

Well with this awesome Coleman 8 person dark room tent setup was a breeze it took less than 5 minutes to get it up. It also blocks ninety percent of sunlight which will definitely come in handy this hot summer. I would absolutely recommend this to all my fellow camping loving friends and family!

Rated 4 out of 5 by colorado campers from Could use a few improvements I was looking for a tent with a screened porch and found this tent and was glad to try it out. Overall a nice tent size wise I think maybe fits 4, says two queen beds maybe if they are touching but if you have cots like we do really think this tent is big enough for two people. If you want to be able to move around. The screen porch is nice because it zips all around keeping bugs out. Does have mesh by the tent door too which is nice for water spills. I do wish the screened in porch was bigger too fits our two chairs a cooler but if we sit in the edge the screen is there and if it’s raining we would get wet. We also don’t feel the tent is a blackout. A lot of light came in around 6 am and was pretty warm. Lastly the screen porch zipper as others have said it would be nice to have a eyelet for a stake to hold it down for easier zipping and closing. Colorado doesn’t get much for rain so haven’t experienced that yet but we’ll see how the tent holds up.
