Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaks and water accumulation Pouring inside our new Coleman Octagon 98 tent. In just 1/2hr of storm, we already have at least 4 leaks and water accumulation. Leaks all across the roof, specially in the middle of the tent and thru the doors. Sleeping bags are all wet, so we are heading over to the nearest motel/hotel. I’ll be returning this tent first thing in the morning. We have been clients of Coleman all our life and this is the first time that something like this happened to us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Quality This is a great quality tenant very strong polls weather resistant holds up to very strong winds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing space! Held up in high winds Used this in the rain and very windy weather. It held up! It's incredibly roomy inside for 2 people. Easy to assumable, took about 10mins and 2 people. It does not come with a hinged door nor the room divider, which was really disappointing. But despite that, this was a great purchase for car camping. We got the half-fly because we think it's better for ventilation in the warmer weather.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the space Really enjoying the ease of setup and space. Nice windows and venting. I need to find somewhere that sells a replacement full fly cover as ours is damaged, I can't find the replacement anywhere! :(

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cheap bag broke right away The tent is durable and spacious. We set it up and we were in love! We can’t wait to take it camping this weekend. My only complaint is that the bag ripped. This would be a 5 star review if not for the bag. I contacted customer service and they said the bag could not be replaced. Like, not for free and not even for a few. That is a huge disappointment! How on earth are we going to be able to lug this heavy tent around properly without a bag! I’m fairly disappointed!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No replacement poles Tent is great, and roomy. Sadly Only after my second use in high winds where i staked the tent poorly i bent some poles. On talking to customer service the only replaceable poles are the door poles.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Read on! Hello! Since you are reading this review, I assume you are looking for a tent like I was. First of all, we are a family of four and I have been camping myself for almost fifty years. Yes, I'm an older parent and living it! I do have an rv but wanted my kids to have the "tent" experience and go back to the basics myself, and boy have I missed it! My longest time in this tent is twelve days and probably a month combined total. I have lots of camping experience in all weather conditions, a former boy scout who spent two summers in a tent working at a scout camp. Enough about my history, how about a review! First the good... 1. This tent has a full rainfly and bathtub floor design, this really helps in adverse weather conditions and water leaks. 2. Great color and not depressing like blue or green, if you spend time in a tent, you know what I mean. 3. Great ventilation with the fly on or off. 4. A rigid framed hinged front door! No need to zip and unzip, this door will also swing shut on its own. The designer of this feature must have kids! It also has a standard back door and I believe this is technically a two room tent with a fabric wall you can install. We do not use this feature since it will kill valuable tent space. 5. Plenty of guy lines with reflective thread sewn in, great feature at night. 6. This tent held up to high winds (with all guy lines staked out) at 9k feet with no problems. 7. There is two pockets in the tent to store cell phones, wallets etc. 8. A loop on the tent ceiling to hold a battery operated lantern. 9. Spacious enough for four cots and several large clothes totes. 10. The rainfly can open and be tied back in sections for ventilation or closed for privacy. Most other tents its all one or the other. 11. Great ventilation even with the fly on as there is several inches between the fly and tent wall. There is even a vent on the top of the fly that is held open by stiff fabric. 12. This is a wall tent, yes you have no problems standing anywhere. 13. This tent is fairly easy to set up as all the poles are color coded. The poles seem to be sturdy and not poor quality. Now for the negative... 1. This tent COULD be set up with one person, but it's so much easier with two. 2. It did leak on us during one very hard storm. It was around the velcro at the top ceiling vent. I did not close the vent and it was blowing hard. I also did not treat any seams in that area. I assume if I had treated it and closed the vent, it may not have been an issue. 3. The tent and poles will not pack back into the factory tent bag. The poles do come with their own bag and we just put the tent in the factory bag. This will take up valuable cargo are when you travel. 4. Being this is a wall tent, you will have problems pitching it in high winds, once up and guy wires out, the wind is no problem. We ran into that issue in the badlands and had to wait for the wind to die down. We are outdoor people and that's part of the adventure. 5. As with most tents, the factory stakes are pathetic. We just bought better ones and solved that problem. 6. Because this tent has such good ventilation, it may get cold inside as there will be a breeze flowing thru the tent. During our trip at 9k feet it was in the low thirties at night with a slight breeze. I could feel the wind blowing under the fly. All in all, I am very happy with this tent. As with any, put out some sort of ground cloth to preserve the tent floor. Good luck with the search and keep this tent in mind. Thanks for hanging in there reading this and I hope it helps. Good luck in the search and see you in the campground.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very roomy and dry! I have used this tent for 4 months. Set it up in late April. It’s still dry. Fits my queen bed and I have room at entrance for dressing, long narrow table on one side for gear, and a small chest of drawers on other side for clothes. Nice height, and it opens up on all sides for warm nights. Couldn’t be more happy. My fifth Coleman tent and is now my favorite. You could put a bunch of sleeping bags in it if you don’t use large air bed like I do

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tent! We finally got a chance to use our new tent this past weekend after buying it a few weeks back. My wife and I had never been camping let alone used a tent, but we were floored with the ease of setting it up. Everything was color coded and went together with ease! The inside was spacious and I loved the height of the tent as well! Would def recommend this tent to anyone and everyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Im in LOVE with this tent!!! The packaging is nice and feels high end. The setup was very easy as I am used to the pop up styles. The quality of the material is excellent. I feel confident that the tent will last for years. The colors are quite pleasing as well. The floor of the tent feels sturdy and isnt damp feeling. The netting is very good. Not one bug inside. The inside height is wonderful. I can stand straight up and raise my hands above my head and never touch the ceiling. I am only 5'2" though. I love the full fly as I have a portable A/C unit and it cools off the tent quite nicely. The inside is very roomy. I have a california king size air mattress a table, two chairs, the A/C unit and a fan inside and still have plenty room to move around. The only drawbacks are there arent any E-ports for cord management nor is there an A/C boot. If those two features were added this would be like home!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go big, go with the best! Easy to set up, it’s definitely a two person job. Spacious and roomy. Everyone who went on the camping trip with us said after seeing our octagon 98 tent they were going to replace their tents with an octagon 98 tent. Two queen air mattresses will fit fine with no problem. The quality of the stitching was good. I didn’t notice any manufacturing defects. However because of the size it will get a bit cold and you will need a good cold temperature sleeping bag. I would recommend however that Coleman add some folding lines or something to help people pack and fold the tent properly so it fits in the case.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty great I would like to see poles that were a little stronger since I had a roof pole bend in a strong wind storm (45 mph gusts). Also, really need the option to buy replacement poles!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Roomy and lots of head room We've had this tent for about 4 years now. Have not used it for the past two but the first two years it was used in Kentucky's Red River Gorge no less than 1 dozen times. About ready to start using it here in Oregon. Fairly easy setup, one can do it but two persons is easier. We've tried multiple tents for large space and this is easily the best of them all. The hinged door is always a great feature. The only down side to it, which is a double edged sword, is the airflow around the tent when the rain fly is installed. On cold nights too much air passes in from the rain fly openings and around the tent. Definitely could use a zipped door on both side to keep that air from coming in the big entry openings. If the interior tent mesh openings had zip windows that would fix it but we secure a cover over the opening to minimize it. Good buy!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from love love loved it until the fly ripped! I searched and was thrilled to find this tent! It was everything I wanted. I used it for a "get away" down by our lake through out the summer. When it came time to put it away for the winter, I found that the fly (NOT ripstop!!) just almost crumbled and ripped in several places. We weren't rough with it and didn't snag it on anything, it just ripped under my fingers. I tried using tent tape on the rips, but they just continue to rip. Now I'm faced with trying to figure out another fly system. I'm so disappointed that the fly isn't as durable as the rest of the inner tent. It held up beautifully, but will be useless unless I can find a replacement fly. Very sad in northern WI !!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lots of space and easy setup... I really like this tent. It's easy enough for one person to set up. The poles are solid enough where I don't need to tie ropes down - even in pretty substantial wind. Love the door. My friends are amazed at how quickly I can enter and exit the tent. The full fly is nice, too. Adds a ton of rain protection. In fact, I wish they continued the fly all the way around, rather than adding the additional door. Because during heavy rain, water does leak through the doorway zippers. Other than that, this tent is great.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from No good in rain Great tent if it doesn't rain. Easy to set up, durable in strong winds, but no good even in a light rain. The floor doesn't leak but the rainfly gets soaked and drips inside even in a light rain. The sides of the tent were dripping too. Reviews said not a drop of rain in a downpour but that was definitely not our experience. Rained on our 3rd use and had to leave vacation and pack up at 5:30 am so our stuff would not get wet inside. I would be scared to use it again. We were 7 hours from home and forfeited our camping fee the last day and headed home because it was supposed to rain more. Very disappointed because it was so new. I do not normally write reviews but hope nobody else has to experience this. I contacted the seller of the tent and was told it was past my 30 day return.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great all-round design. I have used many tents over the years and this is one of the best car camping tents for a few reasons. Starting with ease of set-up, which uses color coded poles which snap together with a click. One person can easily be done in 15 minutes +/-. The full rainfly is great. The fact that all panels can be opened or closed independently separates it from most other full rainfly tents. This tent can also withstand reasonable wind with it’s several tie off options. Two large doors offer flexibility and includes two poles making the door rigid for easy enter/exit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy to finally have you! I have been longing to buy this tent for the last 4-5 yrs. it took me this long because I still have another Coleman tent from yrs ago. For me, Coleman is the only brand to go when it comes to outdoor activities. I can’t wait to put up this 8 person spacious tent. Even though I have not used it, through plenty of reviews I’ve read, I know that I will be very happy with this purchase. My boys are 6’5” tall. So the middle height will do great w/ our family. In fact, I will buy another one of this shortly after writing this review as a gift to a friend whom I’d like to come with us camping in Zion. We all need a durable spacious tent that can withstand a string rain or storm. Coleman is the only way to go in my family and YOURS SHOULD TOO!!! P.S. How I wish Coleman will ship this large ticket item purchase for free given the price. I had to pay the discounted shipping chatges of $14.95.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great but a couple areas to improve Very impressed with the Oct 98 with half fly. Performed well in rain and high wind, very spacious, very easy for me to set up solo, great head space all the way around inside, nice not to squat around half of it (I'm 5'10"). Went through a severe thunderstom in the back country and with all the guide lines out, she held up. Granted it was maybe the 5th trip so the coatings on it were still fairly new, but it didnt leak or blow down! Our tent was the only thing left standing. So the Oct 98 had quite the test and passed wtih flying colors! Our coleman canopy didnt make it. Was twisted in half and ripped. But back to the Oct 98, The cons- roof over door needs to be longer because it dumps right into the bottom of the door if you open it or have to run in/out in the rain. Even in the light rain or morning dew, as soon as you unzip that door, it comes dripping in. Other than the 2 windows on the doors, you can not open/close windows without running outside in the rain or night. Crappy if you have them open and rain moves in over night. Or your other option is to leave them closed and it can get a bit stuffy, however, the rain fly has a wide gap between the tent, and a wonderful vent on the top, so you do get some air. Also, just a little personal thought, it would be nice to be able to purchase the full fly sheet to make it more of the 3 season tent for cold weather camping. I do like that this version of the tent is not made up of a bunch of screen. It has some actual walls and ceiling for cold weather camping.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tent leaks, very crafty due to flaw The tent leaks, everywhere and on the first use! At the ground sheet, at the sides, at the top. The outer fly has an open doorway (it has an inner door) but this means wind and rain just get blown directly in and onto the mesh. It does not retain heat and it is in no way waterproof. I couldn’t believe how many areas it leaked on. Luckily the retailer took it back. Lost confidence in Colemans

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tent, great layout After months of review and watching YouTube reviews on tents, the Octagon 98 constantly had great reviews. After 3 uses, I can say I agree with the reviews, this is a great tent. We have a family of 5, 3 boys that are 9, 6, and 3 so we fit perfectly in the tent with room for storage and space to move around. Pros: easy to setup (15 mins.) Strong poles. Good venting. Door for easy access. Takedown is quick and easy as well. Cons: impossible to get it into carrying case. Heavy to haul Overall no regrets, highly recommend it, won’t disappoint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from plenty of room I use it to go fishing. I love the space, allows me to have a queen size bed, a table, and a port-a-potty. Strong metal poles withstand the wind. It's like a large room. I am 67 years old and it is a one person set-up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tent! Took it camping last weekend (two adults, three youngsters, ages ranging from 3 to 9), and we had loads of room! It was nice to be able to stand upright within the tent... hopefully next time we go, my son-in-law will also be able to join us, and even he would be able to stand upright! Easy to set up. If a 57 year old, short, obese woman can put it up by herself, just about anyone can! The only challenge was putting on the rainfly, but even that I was able to do with a bit of finagling. Looking forward to many more camping trips with this tent!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from awful tent and customer service Flimsy construction, zippers hard to use and door does not stay shut. Zipper on bag broke on first use. Box was delivered completely disintegrated from being soaking wet. I want to return the tent but a new box would be expensive as would return shipping and neither shipper nor Coleman will do anything so I'm stuck with a tent I do not want

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT PURCHASE Trying to return the tent. Upon opening the tent on the first night, the fly (internal Velcro that connects to pole) and pole bag were damaged out of the box. Noticed on the second night that there was at least one small hole in the floor. We were on a completely clean camping pad. Velcro on rain fly came loose during the evening and due to it flapping in the wind damaged the mesh on two windows. Really disappointed in this product. I have had a Coleman tent for 13 years prior and needed to replace it so I purchased the Octagon. I have tried reaching out to customer service via their website and have not heard back. Their website will not let me upload more than one picture illustrating the issues before and after just one use. DO NOT PURCHASE!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super quick to set up Easy to set up, high quality material and very very spacious. At first I had a little difficulty putting the metal steaks in place, but once I figure out it went smoothly. I have not used the tent on the rain, I am not sure how good it is. I sprayed the outside of the tent with a waterproof spray for an extra layer of protection. I’ve purchased this tent from Coleman because of good experience that I have had in the past. I am very confident that I made the right decision. So far it has not disappointed me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable and Easy Setup I have an older version of this Coleman "Yurt". I have had it for over 5 years. It is my primary "home" when I go camping. It's been all over Ontario Canada, and all the way to Pennsylvania. It has never leaked, and truly stands up to the wind. My FAVOURITE tent of all time.
