Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice lamp I bought it a month ago. I've never known before about such a thing. I used kerosene lamps before, but they were simple flat-wick lamps. The first what I want to say about this lantern, it is really bright! Now I use it in our old tiny country house, where we come on weekends. There isn't electricity in the house, and earlier we used flat-wick kerosene lamps and LED flashlights. But with this lantern we have a powerful lighting and therefore more enjoy with our rest in the country. The second what I want to say - it is a generator of warmth. I calculated, that heat power of the lantern is about 800 W. And because of that the lantern is additionally a good heater.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made in USA and built like a tank. This is the only kerosene lantern currently made by Coleman. I wanted a kerosene lantern to augment my standard "white gas" and propane fueled lanterns, as an alternate fuel source for emergency preparedness. Kerosene is also much safer to handle and store that white gas (Coleman Camp Fuel). This full-size lantern is heavy duty and VERY bright. It is almost as well made as the classic Coleman lanterns of yesterday, except for a few minor parts now made of plastic. This is a premium quality lantern that is still made in USA. I would like to see Coleman make a compact Kerosene fueled lantern in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny of the purchase price! Awesome that Coleman is still making a kerosene lantern! The kerosene powered 639 Series was first introduced in 1970, so you know it's going to be dependable! Very bright and easy to light once you understand the start-up process. I bought this for my motorhome camping as it is safer to transport kerosene than white gas (it takes a much higher temperature to ignite kerosene) and kerosene has a much longer storage life vs. white gas. A liquid fuel powered lantern adds way more nostalgia to a campsite vs. LED lighting. If you have ever considered purchasing a kerosene powered lantern I urge you to buy this one - you won't be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Timeless and Trustworthy I have several Coleman fuel lanterns and several 639 Coleman kerosene lanterns and I have to say the kerosene lanterns are my favorites. They run really nice and even though the preheat that is required is an extra step, it only takes about 1 minute and the nice thing is after the preheat they are ready to go, turn on the valve and you're in business, no smoke, no flooding, no temporary flames, no fussiness, just bright white light just as steady and bright as can be. It has been my experience that denatured alcohol which is easy to find burns much better and cleaner for the preheat than the 91% isopropyl rubbing alcohol.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little lantern, I love it. I collect old Coleman lanterns, but I did not have a Kerosene Coleman, and used ones are hard to find. So I bought one of these late Novemberof this year, arrivingearlyDecember witha manufacturerdate of 12-21. I was pleasantly surprised to find mine has the tried and true metal retainer and clip instead of the terrible plastic retainer. I hope Coleman is switching back to the metal retainer. I also love the looks of the rounded globe, like the earlier 200a , and 242 lanterns. It if fun and easy to light using denatured alcohol. I enjoyed it so much I bought one for my brother, from Amazon because Coleman was, and still is out of stock at this time. I hope this lantern is not being discontinued. My brother's lantern came with the plastic retainer, but otherwise he loves it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It’s a beast! This lantern is very bright! Even with a single mantle. I love the kerosene, no need to worry about gasoline varnishing. As good as any Coleman lantern I have that is 50 years old.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my 639C Lantern I have been waiting for a while now to get my hands on a new Kerosene model. When I heard these were back in stock, I had to grab one. This lantern was a prefect fit for me because I use a Kerosene heater, so I already had the fuel needed. Only had to get a small can of Denatured Alcohol which should last me years. I read the instructions, pre-burned my mantle and the following day, I fired it up on the first try with no issues whatsoever. My hope is that Coleman continues to keep the legacy of the traditional lanterns going. I am happy to support them and I am very happy with my purchase so far.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from first kerosene lantern I have 12 Coleman lanterns. This was my first kerosene lantern. I took it camping in cold weather in the teens. After lighting the lantern I ran it on low for about an hour. I tried to turn up brightness and got flames and smoke. I could not get lantern to glow and eventually sooted it up so badly it was useless. Compared to my other Coleman lantern was made way more cheaply. I definitely did not like the way I had to take the lantern apart to change the generator. After cleaning up the lantern and blowing out the air mixing tubes I have the lantern running. I will never run the kerosene lantern on low again. I recommend go with a gas lantern.

We understand you want to know if you can use methyl hydrate to light the mantel of the Coleman&amp;reg; Kerosene Lantern. We would be delighted to answer your inquiry. Upon checking, please be advised that you should always light the mantles with a match only and let them burn to ash before lighting the lantern. Attempting to light the lantern and burn off the mantles at the same time can cause a mantle to tear or break. It is recommended that if you have an electronic ignition lantern, you light it the first time with a match. After being burned off, mantles are delicate. Using the electronic ignition on the first lighting can cause the mantle to break. Lighting the lantern the first time with a match will allow the mantles to expand and shape themselves, which makes them stronger. We hope this helps answer your question. Please let us know if you need further assistance.&#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;Have a wonderful day. <div class="bvseo-author">Answered by: Krystal, at Coleman&reg;</div> <div class="bvseo-pubdate">Date published: 2024-03-19</div> </div> </div> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> if (document.getElementById('bvseo-questionsSection')) { document.getElementById('bvseo-questionsSection').style.display = 'none'; } </script> <!--end-questions--> <ul id="BVSEO_meta" style="display:none!important"> <li data-bvseo="bvDateModified">y_2024, m_12, d_11, h_7CST</li> <li data-bvseo="ps">bvseo_bulk, prod_bvqa, vn_bulk_3.0.42</li> <li data-bvseo="cp">cp_1, bvpage1</li> <li data-bvseo="co">co_hasquestionsanswers, tq_8</li> <li data-bvseo="cf">loc_en_US, sid_SP_270734, prod, sort_[SortEntry(order=LAST_APPROVED_ANSWER_SUBMISSION_TIME, direction=DESCENDING)]</li> <li data-bvseo="diagnostics">clientName_coleman-us</li> </ul> <!--end-bvseo-questions--> <ul id="BVSEOSDK_meta" style="display: none !important;"> <li data-bvseo="sdk">bvseo_sdk, dw_cartridge, 18.2.0, p_sdk_3.2.0</li> <li data-bvseo="sp_mt">CLOUD, getContent, 0ms</li> <li data-bvseo="ct_st">questions, product</li> </ul>
