Description

The single-mantle design of this lantern creates a steady, bright glow of up to 700 lumens of light that reaches up to 11 meters away. To get your lantern started, simply add some rubbing alcohol (sold separately) to the primer cup, light the alcohol with a match, then dial in the perfect brightness with the adjustable control knob. Once your lantern is lit, the fuel tank provides a steady base when placed on a table, and the bail handle allows for easy hanging. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works just a Coleman should Nice and bright. Lightning the first time was a challenge. I used 70% rubbing alcohol to preheat the generator. It would not burn. 91% did the trick. I’m very happy with my purchase and I expect to get many years of use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old School Cool! Classic Kero lantern from Coleman. As close as you can get now to the old Coleman lanterns. Every thing about this lantern is great-from the pre heat procedure, to the awesome light it puts out. Kero is about half the cost of Coleman fuel (around here anyway). I`d recommend running this lantern full blast, not turned down to a lower setting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's not bad built for these days and times but it I use this in the north country once in a while. I'll put it in my pickup truck without me. In it to preheat the cab and defrost the windshield, then I take it out and start the truck up and it's nice and warm in there and ventilated a little bit, but it really doesn't smell much at all, especially if you run clean burn instead of kerosene from the pump. The start up and shut down or slightly different and there is a slight odor of the kerosene during those periods of time, but otherwise it burns very clean, odorless, and bright. Kerosene is easy to come by. The product quality is solid and for the most part made in Wichita which I like. I’m happy.

Only drawback of this style of lantern is the difficulty adjusting to get a very low dimness. The lantern is naturally very bright, so if you are looking for something that is dimmer this may not be for you

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bright, dependable and efficient Bought this to supplement emergency lighting in case of blackouts and recently had to use this lantern during a black out where the temperature fell below freezing. Unit started right up as it should and added a bit of warmth during this time. Unit lasted all through the night with only one tank of fuel.

As others have said, it's nice Coleman still makes a kerosene lantern in their lineup....n it sure how long that will last, but I suspect its still fairly popular among liquid fuel diehards. Overall decent quality (strong similarities to previous Coleman gas lanterns), although the way the bail attaches to the ventilator could better secured and the frame/burner assembly is only pressed metal....but things are just not made like they used to. Otherwise, light up is straight forward (just follow the pre warm up instructions) and it does burn quite bright. I bought a second one as a backup. Was not sure if there is a compatible case for this lantern. Globe is made in China. Well packaged in box. Received via FedEx with no issues. Buy it when it's 40% off direct from Coleman.

I followed the lighting instructions and had no issues at all getting it up and running. It is very bright. Easily the brightest lantern I own. Looking forward to the next light up.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Minor damage. The lantern arrived with a dented collar, but otherwise it seems ok. The box wasn't damaged at all, so the dent was something that made it past quality control. As a collector of Coleman lanterns, the dent is a bit of a letdown from the quality that I've seen in the past.

I was quite impressed with the quality of the lantern, it will be used mostly for camping and tailgating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Lantern! I had been wanting to add a kero lantern to my collection and decided to purchase a current model. The lantern came well packaged with everything need to get going, minus the fuel. Just a few minutes to set up and it was up and running. The lantern provides a wonderful bright light with good adjustment and seems to be quite fuel efficient, I don't believe I've had to refill it yet over the last month, with I believe close to 8hrs run time. I'd happily purchase another of these 639C lanterns again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Coleman Kero Lantern as Grid/Hurricane failsafe The lantern maintains Coleman standards of earlier times as it appears. At first, I missed the long-used bail nut on top, but I realize this is an improvement over the wear and tear of the high heat "paint" on older lantern "ventilators". As my doubt in the health of the "grid" increases I bought this as a failsafe for my white gas lanterns and also kerosene is cheaper and more readily available in my area since I also bought a kerosene heater for winter back up too, I will have a lot of fuel on hand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great kerosene lamp This lantern is a fun throwback to a simpler time when everything was more complex. There’s a real starting procedure, you don’t just light it. It burns brightly with a very nice color light and I ran it in excess of 8 hours*. I shut it off, it still had fuel. *Not full bright but approximately 80%. Pro-tip: have some Q-tips handy. They bend nicely and when dipped in alcohol they aid in lighting. In summation this is a great lantern that works well and will likely last a lifetime.
