Great Light!
Super Awesome There's Different Lights All Around It And They Move Up And Down To Help Point The Light Where We Need It To Go! It Isn't Too Heavy The Kids Use It To Go To The Bathroom At Night. It Is Super Reliable And Never Turns Off Randomly!

Very disappointed
Bought these a few years ago for all the family. Every single one of them died within a few years. And just like another review, they drain the batteries as they sit. Would not recommend. Coleman, very disappointed in your quality anymore.

Useless for any emergency. It takes 2 hours to charge the side lights with NON-RECHARGEABLE batteries & you can't leave the D batteries in becdause they keep charging the side lights & go dead.
C'mon Coleman, you can do better.

Buy it for you and a friend
It was my first time camping with just me and my kids. I grew up camping with my mom, who at the old fashioned propane powered lanterns. Oh my goodness this lantern is so much better!! I loved it so much. I ordered her one for her birthday. We ended up just using the four separate detachable lights, and it was plenty of light for us. I didn't need to insert the 8D batteries at all. Each detachable light has a little kickstand so you can prop it up on your picnic table or on the ground of your tent when you're getting dressed. The portability is amazing! It's very easy to detach or reattach the little units. When one of them is detached, the other three work just fine. So losing one unit wouldn't be the end of the world, in my opinion, bcause the other unit still work.
It's also easy to adjust the brightness by clicking the button one or more times. One of these little lights got lost under a sleeping bag and definitely got rolled on or sat on, but it was very durable. My lantern survived the first camping trip with two young kids and I look forward to using it again.

Terrible for emergencies, ok for camping.
We bought this somewhat pricey lantern after a series of blackouts. The cost of the lantern and the initial battery investment had me thinking that I'd have a great emergency tool at my disposal.
Unfortunately, as other reviews have mentioned, it only takes D cell batteries, which aren't rechargeable. This wouldn't be an issue except for the fact that the 4 mini lights are constantly draining the batteries to recharge.
This means that you need to keep the batteries out of the lantern until it's needed, because if you leave it for a few weeks or months and run into an emergency, all the batteries will be dead.
One of the four lights on ours also had never worked when separated from the base, even with new, fully charged, rechargeable AAA batteries in it. Disappointing in and of itself, but you also cannot purchase replacement mini lights, which is just stupid.
When the lantern is fully functional, it does a great job. Lights are bright and the stands on the beach of the mini lights are very handy. I did a bunch of work in my dark attic, and this lantern was great up there.
But again, this lantern is for very specific short term purposes, and cannot be relied on in an emergency.

Hello Mami, Thank you for your question about the Coleman Quad&reg; Pro 800L LED Lantern. The battery compartment is designed with a locking base door, not a simple flip hinge. Even though it looks like it should swing open, it usually stays firmly secured to prevent accidental opening during use. To open it: ★Place the lantern on a stable surface ★Locate the release latch or tab on the bottom base ★Press the latch inward while gently pulling the battery door outward ★If it feels stuck, avoid forcing the hinge, as it does not fully &ldquo;swing open&rdquo; until the latch is released Once released, the base panel will open to access the D batteries. If it still will not budge, it is often just tightly sealed from factory fit, and a firm press on the release tab while pulling evenly usually helps. Had the same problem. To make it water resistant there is a rubber gasket on the base. In order to remove mine I took a small hammer and Gently tapped it on its molded feet several times until it began to move. Unless you have a hand the size of a giant it is very difficult to remove the base.
