Rated 1 out of 5 by Lisalu from Leaked like a sieve. I’ve owned two of these tons. First one I bought 10 years ago I think from Walmart. It’s orange. It’s perfect. But then I bought a second one three years ago from Amazon, it’s brown, and it apparently has zero rainproofing on the fabric because first time out in the rain, water came in every single wall. We were horrified and totally shocked. But now when I look at reviews of this tent it seems like huge batches of them were sold with no waterproofing on the fabric. Where is Coleman quality control?? Because of pandemic I only started using this 10 last month, I have sent in a complaint and I will see what they say. At this point I would never buy another Coleman product. I will see if they stand by their name.

Rated 2 out of 5 by carcamperohio from weathertec? bwuahaha i wanted so bad to have a better story to tell. this tent is great, its roomy, stupid easy and fast to set up, but you do not want this in the rain. even if you buy the rain fly that is not included, which i did. i dont feel i am a hardcore camper, but have twice been caught in the rain with this tent and have literally had standing water in the tent. it seems to come from the bottom edge of the windows, even though the seams are sealed. ........i mean, dont advertise it as "weathertec" and not needing a rain fly......if it doesnt protect you and your stuff from the rain......whats the point?

Rated 4 out of 5 by Camperkeith from Not bad but needs the rain fly. First off I gave this tent 4 stars because it doesn't come with the rain fly, any other tent does why not this one? Now on to the goods. I've tested this tent for a full week in snow, rain, sleet, sun and 45 mph winds. It handles very well. The frame is a little flimsy but of anchored down properly with 10 inch stakes it does fine ( I won't recommend the stock stakes ) I put a 8×10 foot tarp over mine and staked the tarp to the ground using bunny cords and it added to the durability of withstanding the winds. Without the tarp some water got into the tent but was easily removed by a shop vac. Ultimately I would recommend this tent to a friend.

We’ve had this tent for a couple of years— and while I do admit it is incredibly easy to pitch, it is not a tent I would recommend due to the leaks!! Admittedly I thought I would be ok since I live in California (where it never rains) but my last trip had us throwing buckets out of our tent. I feel like somehow the tent collected EXTRA rain. Coleman you can do better!!! My husband 3 year old and 11 month old were all huddled on our air mattress for a few hours until it got so bad we had to pack up and leave at 5am good thing it was the last night of our trip or I’d be extra disappointed I’m now shopping for a new weather proof tent.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Neum from Very Poor Designed Tent for Weather This tent says Weather Tec on it, but what does that mean? It leaked into the zippers just from dew collecting on it. Rain built up puddles on the very top and leaked all over the floor. So that is 2 areas that leaked for me after 1 short 2 day test run in my yard. I tried sealing those seams on the windows, but water still cam in from the rain. I then learned that sold separately from a third party a rain fly is sold for this tent. Why would Coleman sell a tent that knowingly leaks this bad? Are these tested in any sort of light rain conditions? Why stamp Weather Tec on the side if even dew leaks in? I see the 4 person tent has some bad leak photos as well with the same design. I am now hearing even with the rain fly it still leaks. Why is this even on the market? Maybe they will work on Mars if it never rains there, but certainly not Michigan where we love to camp and have depended on Coleman to make us reliable camping gear for decades.

I can't believe I was fooled by the YouTube videos that speak well of this crap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by kelseyr110 from Amazing Tent! Easy Set Up. Highly Recommend. This is a great tent! I have not used it in the rain yet but the set up and take down literally takes seconds. Easy for one person to do on their own. My dad set this up with me and now wants to buy one as well due to the ease of set up and take down and overall design. A plus is that it actually fits back in the bag as well. I did read the reviews about this not being entirely waterproof and purchased the rain fly to ensure we stay dry. It was only $40 and a great accessory to have. It is a great looking tent, plenty of room for 6 people and we cannot wait to use it outdoors. The vents up top are a nice addition to get some air flow in when needed.

It's still 100% waterproof, no holes, no tears, and it zips up completely, so we use it on cold campouts too! It takes us less than 4 minutes to set up, including staking it down but we also use the optional rain fly every time. This is the best tent without any question for the price. The zippers were a little bit "sticky" and not smooth when we first got it, but thats actually because the seem tape was so close to it and the more We've used it, the better it got. After 3 trips they were smooth as silk and the seem seals are all perfect! Now we've used it maybe 30 times on multiple day trips!

We camped out on the Blue Ridge Parkway N.C.It rained all night and we got soaked. the water came in through the walls not the seams. it pooled on the floor and all our gear was soaked( sleeping bags, computers, clothing,etc...) I would not recommend this tent to anyone. I will not purchase anymore Colman products.

Rated 3 out of 5 by ibwebn from Good tent, but needs a better rain fly The tent is easy to put up. Had minimum water leaking in the rain, so sprayed the tent with a water repellent to fix the issue. I've had to do this with tents from other companies, so not a big deal. Would be good if it had an arrow or something in the center where the poles come together so you know where the front is before you unfold the tent. I used a marker to add an arrow to point to the front. Would also be nice if there was some sort of small opening to pass in an electric cable from the outside. Finally, if you get the additional rain fly know that it only covers the top of the tent. Since the bottom of the tent angles outward from the top, if you open the door in the rain you will get water in the tent. The rain fly does not extend out over the door to keep the rain out.

The spider structure was guy-lined to avoid the collapse but still the knuckle could not hold on. Middle of the night, we were packing ourselves out from the beach. What a disaster this tent is and even pathetic is their agent here in Oman. 8 other families had purchased this tent based on my initial recommendations and now I pray they do not go camping in winds. Did not expect such a crap from Coleman.

So very roomy and lots of ventilation..and so easy to set up..!! Water proof as we learned real quick out first outting...We are enjoying our Coleman 6 Person Instant Cabin in the back yard to the lake to wherever the boys wanna go...The set up is so easy my 7 and 9 yr old can set it with very little help...We had 2 queen sz air mattresses and still had room for personal items and bags..its a great tent for all..very easy storage if you ever give it a rest...lol We highly recommend the Coleman 6-Person Instant Cabin and all Coleman products!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by MarriC from I LOVE THIS TENT It seems only fair, since I gave a scathing review to the Longs Peak Easy Pitch 6-person Dome tent, that I should also review the InstantUp Cabin Tent. I have used my InstantUp since 2015 when I took it out for an almost 3 month fire assignment. The ICP (fire camp) was in the coldest possible location (almost 30 miles by road from the fire itself) and it rained numerous times, the wind blew, taking out 2/3rds of the other tents in camp, and for all but the first week on the fire, nights went below 28 degrees F. I was happy and snug in my 6-person InstantUp Cabin tent, especially after I got myself a Little Heater Buddy to warm up the room. The tent snugs up so well that I leave the door zipper cracked, and the vent open on the top so the safety feature on the Heater Buddy won't shut it off. The tent truly is an InstantUp. One Girl set up in ten minutes. There are zippered windows on four sides, plus top vents, so you can open up when it's hot, & close it up tight when it's cold or rainy. I always set it up from the beginning with the rain fly, and I tie it down with extra tent pegs for the rain fly. I've never staked & tied down the extra ties that come on the tent itself, I just use the ones on the rain fly. It did not leak in heavy rain, as long as I kept all my gear away from touching the tent wall while it was raining. I use a tarp underneath it, and I take rugs for the floor, as well as a large cot to sleep on, under which I store all my gear in tubs. I have my Mr. Heater Buddy for cold mornings, or to warm everything up as I get into bed at night. I can use my solar powered lights because the cord to the collector can be threaded out through the top vent, which doesn't leak because it's under the rain fly. It's October of 2020. We just got off a 30 day fire assignment in September & October in Idaho. It was hot in the beginning, and then cold. I was happy. But the door zipper seam pulled loose from the tent at the top corner, and I will have to find someone to repair that before I can use the tent again. It's the only problem I've had with the Instant Up in 6 years of use on Wildfire assignments.

The fly doesn't do much except move the leaks lower on the walls, except where it leaks, as well. All "weather-resistant" claims are complete falsehoods. Really disappointed. The floor holds water great, however, so if you're into that Roman bath thing, these are perfect!

And best of all it’s just as easy to take down! It also actually fits easily into to provided storage bag! We easily fit two queen size airbeds inside. Lots of nice sized windows and a excellent ventilation screened tabs at the top for extra ventilation. A nice tab also for hanging up our lantern inside. I love this tent and will be purchasing the rain fly as it isn’t included with the tent. If you are looking for the easiest tent to set up quickly this is the one!

The whole tent leaks - from seams to walls. Nothing is water proof or made for even small rain. It will leak and all your stuff will be wet. Completely false advertising for weatherproof product! Expected much better from Coleman.

In that case both are instant set up and take down. That is the perfect set up. Otherwise it will leak.

Rated 1 out of 5 by KellP from Easy to set up but not waterproof We got this tent for our two week summer trip for my husband and I to have a separate tent from our three kids. It was very easy to set up and take down and the space is fine for the two of us on a queen air mattress and our luggage. However it is not waterproof at all. We got soaked on the night it rained. Rain gathered in the top and dripped down into the center of the tent soaking our sleeping bag and mattress. Also, water came in through the walls and collected in the bottom seam. We got a ton of water in the tent. This happened three nights into our two week trip. We put a tarp over the top for the next rain and that helped it from dripping down the middle however the sides still let water in. This tent is worthless if there is any chance there will be rain. I contacted customer support after the first rain a week ago and no one ever got back to me. This is the first Coleman tent we splurged on and it will be the last. We’ve never had a tent get anywhere near this amount of water in it. And our kids were completely dry in their tent that was a different brand.

This year due to projected bad weather, and not wanting to disappoint our granddaughters we decided to camp at their house. We referred to it as Camp COVID. On day three along came tropical storm ISAIAS with heavy rain and wind gusts between 50-60 mph. For safety we moved into the house to wait out the storm. The winds were so strong they took down the awning which was securely staked down, and their tent. However our Coleman instant tent was still standing and dry as a bone so we slept comfortably in it that night.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Geotripper from Easy to put up, pretty durable This is our third tent of this type, not because they fail us, but because we wear them out with use. It sets up quickly and comes down easily, and is durable in most conditions. We haven't had this particular one in a rainstorm yet, but our previous ones did leak a bit, so we use a rainfly when the weather threatens. Those earlier tents held up well in fairly intense winds without ripping. After a few years, the waterproof seams started to peel a bit. The tent fits our queen-sized 22-inch-high airbed easily with additional room for gear. The headroom allows me to avoid crawling about while in the tent.

It is so easy to set up, literally have it up and staked, in less than 10 minutes. No complaints about set up and tear down. My big issue is weather proofing. Any dew or rain and the inside of the tent is all wet to the touch with some pooling on the floor in rain. We sleep on cots and if you touch the side of the tent with your sleeping bag or anything it gets wet. It's quite frustrating.

In anything other than a light rain, the fly causes the runoff to pool at the bottom of the windows and you will get water running into the tent. Now if Coleman sold either of the Gold EVO or Northstar that they sell in Australia. . . I'd buy one of each here in the U.S. I actually spent a whole lot of money to get a Gold Evo 6P shipped here. Rated 2 out of 5 by NancyMH from Sooo disappointed It was a little hard to setup, in that the poles were very tough to extend. I have the 4 person instant tent and had no problems with that set up. The poles of the 4 person are sturdier and of bigger diameter than those of the 6 person. Don’t get that. Also, the zippers weren’t the smoothest. Love the room in the 6 person. Then we had a rainy day and night. After about an hour leaks started popping up all around the tent. I am thoroughly convinced that had I not had the rain fly (that I waterproofed) on it would have been a disaster. I really expected better from this company. Coleman has been a part of my life for over 50 years. This is the first time I’ve been unhappy with one of your products. Your quality should be ‘up there’ with the best.

The product states that it is water proof. It is NOT! This tent would be perfect if it came with a fly from top to bottom, but it does not and I cannot even find one to purchase. I cannot take it back because It was purchased last year. We do backcountry camping and this tent let us down big time. Worst experience ever with a tent.

My Coleman Tent was in perfect condition. I'm taking it on my next road trip to Canada. My first 6-Person Coleman Cabin Tent went on many road trips with me. It endured major winds in NM at the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta and heavy rains at Rock Springs Wyoming. It held up like a champ. After many years of serving me well it was time for a new one. HANDS DOWN this is my pic for durability and comfort.

When I bought the tent, I practiced the set up and breakdown in my backyard. I got faster each time. When we went camping a few days later, it really did take about one minute for me to set it up (not counting laying down a tarp, securing the tent stakes, or securing the guy lines). I set it up totally by myself. My old tents, with the tent poles, usually took me about 20 minutes to set up. So, I highly recommend this Coleman tent for ease of set up. In every other way, this tent is well made, comfortable, roomy (it fits a queen-size inflatable mattress with a little room left to move around and bring personal duffle bags inside).

Rated 5 out of 5 by J. B. from Great tent (rain and wind tested) We are loving this tent so far. Tested for 1 weekend so far, 2 nights. The 1st night we had heavy rain for hours and strong winds, guessing 25+ MPH. Before taking it out camping I used a seam sealer on the outside seams, and gave it to coats of Kiwi's tent waterproofing. We had zero leaks and the poles held up nicely in the winds. I did however open one of the winds a bit to was facing the wind. Just to keep the wall from pushing inwards. That camping trip we did not have the fly, but have bought one since. If anything the fly looks like it could add even more stability. But more importantly protect the plastics of the post system on the roof from the sun. I'm highly recommending this tent. Being able to setup in about a minute is amazing and taking down is just as fast.

Please be advised that the waterproofing of a tent usually becomes necessary after a few years of using it. If your tent is new and has not been exposed to a lot of UV rays, you should not have to waterproof it! When setting up your new tent, please be sure to stake the tent out well, use all your guy lines and all the Velcro straps when you put on the rain fly. Those few things are critical when it comes to the performance of our tent in rainy or windy conditions. Attaching all the Velcro when putting on the rain fly will insure a good, sturdy and wind resistant overall structure of the tent. Using all your guy lines will help to guide the water away from seams and windows if it does rain. The basic rule for setting guy lines on a tent is to stake them out tight at a 45&deg; angle. The stake would normally be about 5 to 6 feet from the tent's main body, depending on the size of your tent.
