Rated 5 out of 5 by Dherbst from Heavy Duty And So Simple to Put Up! This 6-person instant cabin is the perfect tent for us! It has a carrying case with a h KC andle for storage. It is heavier to carry in the case but it has to be because it is a larger tent. It stands about 6 foot tall, which is nice because we are all able to stand comfortably inside. This tent comes out of the box and in the storage bag ready to pop up. It’s so convenient and probably the easiest tent you’ll put up! The legs are preassembled and you just fold down the sides and spread it out, pop the legs up and push the entire thing up. You don’t even need directions and it took literally 1 minute to pop up. The stakes aren’t the best quality but they get the job done. The guy wire stakes are much better quality. Now the tent itself is great quality. The tarp on the bottom is good enough as I don’t need to use a second one to lay it on. It has vents up top for summertime and has several windows for moving air through. You do open the vents from the outside. I am 5’5 and I can’t reach the top by standing outside but if I open the door and stand inside and reach above the tent then I can reach it fine. We can sleep a queen size air mattress and one twin size in there comfortably. Overall, I am very happy with this and due to the quality I bet it will last several years. Definitely 5 stars and I highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by kaitye from Set up in less than a minute! I was surprised by how quick the set-up on this tent was! Took two people less than 60 seconds to put up. You pull it out of the bag, unfold it and lay it out flat, then pull the center of the frame in the middle up. The legs of the frame slide out to extend and click into place. We tested the set-up in the basement (since it is not currently camping weather), so we did not go through the process of staking it into the ground, but the basic tent assembly was easy. If you have the space, I’d highly recommend doing this with any brand new tent before you take it out camping. It will alleviate the stress of figuring it out at the campsite, and for us, we actually found that one of the plastic pieces at the bottom that holds each corner was broken already! I have contacted Coleman for a replacement, but this could’ve been a big issue had we taken it straight to the campsite. As for the interior, I love the big windows on each side, as well as the large door. The zippers seem to stick some, but I’m hoping that will go away with use. There are a couple storage pockets in the tent and a clip at the top to hang a light. It’s surprisingly spacious and the height is great! My boyfriend is over six foot and could (pretty much) stand up comfortably inside. I look forward to taking this camping (and being well prepared once we get that piece replaced)!

I’ve been a lifetime Coleman purchaser, like my father and grandfather. I read some negative reviews about this tent not being waterproof, but I figured “it’s Coleman, it’s high quality, it can’t be true.” And I purchased it anyway. My husband, toddler, and I took this on a 7 night camping trip across West Virginia. Upon setting up our tent for the very first time I noticed there was no rain fly. I thought it odd, but again figured “Coleman knows what they’re doing, they won’t do me wrong.” That night it rained and we had our windows closed. The zipper teeth started leaking onto our beds. We finally had to go out in the rain, take the tarp from underneath and put it over our tent. It worked for 5 out of the 7 nights. Even when it wasn’t raining, the tent dripped a ridiculous amount of condensation on our blankets throughout the day. On the last two days of our trip the tent floor leaked and ruined our cots. The ONLY thing I loved about this tent was the ease of putting it up and taking it down. Even the zipper quality of this brand has declined, the door zippers were consistently getting stuck. Our two previous tents were Ozark Trail and even though they didn’t last longer than several years, I expected them not to. I paid for this tent to last a long time, not fail right out of the box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by chadwick404 from A really nice design, comfortable, definitely easy I own both the 4 person and 6 person versions, and use the rain flys. Both are very easy to setup. I use the 4 person on motorcycle trips, the 6 for car camping. The 6 person version I have is very waterproof. The 4 person, not so much. I am not sure why. After using the 4 person in NC during a steady rain, it leaked quite a bit - the sides just transpired the moisture to the point it pools on the floor. I wound up treating the tent with silicone spray, and it still leaks a bit. I think the weave of the fabric perhaps changed or is different from the 6 person. Very disappointing. I've never had a problem with the 6 person in any weather. Stake it out it rides through most any normal weather just fine. Very roomy, and comfortable. Will hold heat well enough with a small propane heater (I use a Coleman catalytic). In hot weather, the fly helps a lot. Plenty of height for a 6' person. I usually have a tarp laid down, a large cot, a chair and a small table - and plenty of room. For motorcycle trips, I have an older GS bike, and the 4 person rides well on the bike. Just wished it didn't leak so much. I have owned a number of tents at various price points - and kept using the 4 and 6 person. I like canvas tents better - but not at their price points. The 6 person holds its own quite well. The 4, eh, need to judge the weather more before doing an adventurous trip. I've read many other reviews with a similar opinion. Pity - there must be something about the fabric, or sewing...perhaps even the year made.

Also was pleasantly surprised when I found the rip out expansion panel on the bottom of the bag, so now it has plenty of room in it. I knocked off one star because it could be improved. They should still sell this version, but add an improved version to the lineup that costs a little more. What would I like to see? The tub made of a more premium material. I would like to see a stake point just to the right of the door that will make one handed operation of the zipper easier. Or better yet, add the swing door option. I would like to see two or three ground vents right above the tub, and maybe and electronics pass through (although not really needed the way the current door zipper works). Doors on both sides would be good too ((so maybe only two ground vents). Would also like to see an awning option like they have in Australia. Oh, and this should be part of the current version - Velcro tie straps instead of the current nylon straps that you have to tie off. Also, I had trouble finding a footprint for it, so went with a competitors footprint. All that said though, I love my 6 person instant tent. At 6’2” I have to stoop a little, but not much, and my wife can fully stand. It’s perfect for the two of us and our gear. I would not try to fit more than 3 or 4 people in it though. Highly recommended for what it is. Oh, and it fits in my Jeep JL 4xe across the backseat well. Some of the other east setup tents like the hub tents with similar space and headroom do not.

I had the privilege to get one of the original instant tents when they were first released around 15 years ago. I used that tent literally 50+ times until it finally wore out. I bought my 2nd one (4 person) about 7 or 8 years ago. I wore that one out as well. To be honest, the first one would have made it longer but I broke one of the articulating arms breaking it down in a storm. It never leaked once. I did apply seam sealer a few times as well as scotch guard multiple times as well. The 2nd one had a broken zipper that I didn't want to deal with in really bad weather. I just bought this 3rd one (6-person) along with the additional rain fly as we camp a lot and having that extra protection is very nice especially in strong winds. You don't need a rainfly in 95% of the situations you might find yourself in as the design is exceptionally good at keeping rain out. The design has covers around the windows and door that "hide" the zipper and act as shields to send the rainwater down without entering the tent. The instant up design has changed a little since the first one was released and it is more beefy and the hinge covers are stronger and prevent pinching when taking down or putting up the tent. The tent truly sets up in less than 2 minutes. There have even been times we didn't even use the guy wires to stake out the tent. (I do not recommend that if you won't have a few cots inside to provide some weight.) The tent is very easy to move around to the best position once it is popped open. The "tub" is made of a strong material much like a tarp but stronger, and it is at least 4 inches above the ground so that there is never any water in the tent even when we used it in a storm in the desert. For the money, you will not get a better quality tent that is so easy to use that even a caveman can set it up in a storm. Look for Coleman coupons as well and you might snag an additional discount when you buy one.

Please be advised that the waterproofing of a tent usually becomes necessary after a few years of using it. If your tent is new and has not been exposed to a lot of UV rays, you should not have to waterproof it! When setting up your new tent, please be sure to stake the tent out well, use all your guy lines and all the Velcro straps when you put on the rain fly. Those few things are critical when it comes to the performance of our tent in rainy or windy conditions. Attaching all the Velcro when putting on the rain fly will insure a good, sturdy and wind resistant overall structure of the tent. Using all your guy lines will help to guide the water away from seams and windows if it does rain. The basic rule for setting guy lines on a tent is to stake them out tight at a 45&deg; angle. The stake would normally be about 5 to 6 feet from the tent's main body, depending on the size of your tent.
