Rated 3 out of 5 by traveler 66 from great tent but not water proof Love the tent layout. After figuring out how to set it up, directions lacking some helpful tips. We used it three times now. First was completely dry weekend. Second weekend light rain water came into tent. We thought it was seams so we sprayed all seams. Third weekend nice rain and yes we had a lake in tent. Water came thru side panels, we have now sprayed whole tent with repellent. Hopefully this will solve problem.. It is a shame one must go thru this; I never had this problem with my older Coleman tents.

By 6am here in Wisconsin, we are wide awake because even the fans can't keep it cool and I'd need to wear a mask because it's a bright as looking into the sun. The 2 tents we have had in the past took us through 30 years, not coleman products. We still have, and use the other 2 as spares for family and friends. Unfortunately this 1 won't make it. I've looked at the other posts responses which inform me there is no alternate rainfly available to purchase for this tent.

Coleman took into account the difficulty of setting up and made it as easy as possible. They also took into account the tent never fitting quite right back in the bag and made it expandable.

However, the first one the door brackets failed but the the tent was replaced 100%. my only realy complaint is the ends where the rainfly doesn't cover allow water in when it rains.

Rated 3 out of 5 by natej from Tent Pole Issues I purchased the Coleman 8 person Montana tent last year and upon 3rd use, one of the poles (gray) to the sides broke. I then bought a new tent of the same model early this year and on 2nd use the black door tent pole broke. I've been unsuccessful in contacting Coleman about this so far. Shame the quality of the poles is bad and they also pose a danger as they're fibreglass so they splinter easily. Other than the pole, it's pretty decent tent but you're only gonna fit 4 people realistically.

It was super spacious — easily fit all 8 of us with room for gear. Setup was straightforward and took less than 20 minutes. The tent held up well in light rain and kept us dry all night. Ventilation was decent, and the hinged door is a great touch. It’s a bit bulky to carry, but totally worth it for comfort and weather protection. Highly recommend for families or group trips!

I took my family (2 adults, 2 children (3 and 5)) up to the forest for the week in July. On Tuesday night we encountered what was deemed a minor microburst. Wind, Rain, Lightening, Thunder. The kids slept through the whole thing! This tent is awesome. We did not experience any water leakage inside, nor did we encounter anything that broke on the tent. This tent has two pouches on each end for storage, and thats about it. We were able to fit two queen mattresses, two totes, and a couple smaller totes inside with a ton of room to spare. This tent is an absolute unit when it comes to space. The ceiling inside is very high, which makes changing clothes easy. The door is one of the neatest things i've seen in a tent, it zippers up and has velcro incase you are going in and out. Set up of this tent is fast and simple. Took my wife and i 8 minutes to set up, and a little bit longer to tear down due to pulling stakes out. I recommend bringing an oscilating desk fan to keep the air flow moving in the tent. You wont regret buying this tent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by BJames from Reliable, durable, roomy 5 years and counting! This is our go to tent. I typically set it up myself (I'm a 5'4" woman) and it takes me about 30 min. It's been durable and we're really happy with it! I just broke the gray side body pole due to my own carelessness. I'm so happy that I can purchase replacement parts easily! My 6'2" hubby can stand without hunching to change his clothes which is an added bonus for him. It comfiest comfortably fits 2 queen air mattresses with room between for luggage and changing.

The pole holder parts are not durable enough and poles get stuck in the easily and rip material. There is NOT enough ventilation through the tent. Especially if you have to keep your rainfly on. Because it doesn't cover the whole tent you have to keep your side windows closed for rain. So your stuck with your door and the back "ventilation" that doesn't actually let any air through. Very spacious on the inside which is great but we have been turned down from several campground because it's to big (Ex: Rocky Mountain NP. & Yellowstone) I've worked at a camp for 15 years, I have always loved Coleman so I hope someone can design this tent a bit better because the set up is easy and very spacious!

The screened in front porch area is great for camping in areas with lots of bugs or mosquitos. I would say this is a fantastic tent for an entry level camper or someone that goes maybe twice a year. We went camping during pretty heavy winds and rains and the wind snapped the poles for the tent which is why I Gave it a 3 star review. If you’re looking for a nice basic, large tent this is great!

The eight person has plenty of room to spread out and still accommodate all our gear. I especially appreciate room enough at one end for an inflatable queen mattress. We put up the rain fly even in warm weather to provide additional shade. The window placement on both ends allows for good airflow. We made a rule flashlights always go in the inside pockets so that they are easily accessible in the dark. We looked at a number of 8 person tents and preferred the layout of the Coleman Montana best. I also like that the bathtub flooring keeps out moisture and insects. (In warm weather we also place a tarp under the tent to minimize wear on the floor.) I also think it was an excellent value at $179.00 online.

Pitching this tent is where my problem was, and it happened to be the first time using this tent. One of the grey poles that open up one of the ends split down the middle attempting to insert it into position. We ended up having to use it as is, 2/3rds pitched. Now I need to spend more money for a new pole…………Bravo Sierra.

I lost the instructions somewhere, but was able to figure it out despite 3 poles for the body, 2 for the rain fly, and 2 little ones for the door, and at least the dozen stake down points were easier to figure out. That said once together it is a very impressive looking tent. Held up well in the rain and hail. Next time I'm buying a tent I will spring for the Coleman Fast Pitch.

Rained the whole night and inside stayed completely dry. Door stays ajar if not zipped up, velcro might as well be useless, which is annoying but otherwise having an easy in and out was fantastic. My Marmot 4p tent has 3x more pockets than this 8p tent. It has good ventilation. Stays cool in Florida sun. No other complaints.

Love it. And this comes from someone who has done some extremely camping over the years in mostly 4 season doom tents in all 4 seasons. Now I can get the family to come along.

Lots of head space, my husband is 6’1” and he can stand up in the middle and sit up right in the bed without touching the top of the tent. It is so easy to setup and take down and as long as you keep the storage bag’s it comes with it pack’s up to almost nothing, taking up very little space!!

We used this tent all of last year and are continuing to use it this year. It has remained dry and solid throughout the entire season both last year and so far this year, including a pair of 2-inch+ rainstorms a couple of weeks ago. We have it setup as our summer home, with area rugs on the floor and plastic bureaus and a hanging bar for clothes. I can't speak to how comfy it would be for lots of people, but for the 2 of us, it's great. We used it as-is out of the box, no seam-sealing, although we may do that after this year. The height makesnot easy for us to stand in, although we aren't really tall either. I would highly recommend this product although admittedly, your results may vary. You probably won't be using this for 5 months out of the year.

It is really easy to set up, although the rain fly is a little complicated however we rarely us it. The tent sans rain fly offers an amazing view of the stars at night. It is still in great shape except for two poles that I am trying to replace.

The weather can go from sunny hot and humid to freezing and raining very quickly at times. This tent keeps us warm and dry always. Open the windows for cool breezes all night long and watch the stars. Easy set up and take down. Our family of four with air mattresses fit perfectly with room to spare.

We realized after setting it up that the ventilation and rain fly system are for moderate and warm weather. We liked the space and the height. We had a question about some cover for the screen openings that would allow some heat retention? I would recommend it for warm weather camping.

The first time I used it a side fiberglass pole broke from poor quality and ripped the tent. I contacted Coleman and they replaced the entire tent and poles when I sent them the defective tent. The new tent was fine on my next camping trip, but this year the same side fiberglass pole shattered in multiple places on my trip. It is a good thing I brought duct tape to mend the pole, so I could finish my trip. I again contacted Coleman, as these fiberglass poles are defective. But they just referred back to their 1-year warranty on the replacement tent/parts and refused to send a new set of poles. I am now having to get a replacement pole, but I won’t do it via Coleman, nor will I ever buy or recommend any of their products in the future. Stay away from this tent and their products. I have camped for over 30 years and this is far and away the worst tent.

Set-up is easier with two people, but I've done it before by myself and had no problems. It's very roomy as we don't like cramped quarters so the most people we've put in here was 6 comfortably with air mattresses and room for everyone's belongings for 4 nights.

We can easily put 3-4 sleeping cots inside. It is waterproof and has windows so you can have fresh air inside. The only cons is assembly. It takes a lot of time! Ah no, the storage as well it is not easy to pack it back to the small bag.

My children were all able to assemble it with ease even though they were all under ten. We camped in beautiful weather and some very rainy days and we never had any water come into our tent. We are so grateful for this home away from home that enhanced our connection to nature and gave us all the comfort we needed.
