Rated 3 out of 5 by from Will work in a pinch. I Bought this tent for car camping while traveling/sight seeing. This tent would be ok for a one and done weekend in the spring, to use in a pinch. My first use, It didn't leak too bad when it rained. One seam had a slight leak that built up a puddle but it was manageable. It withstood the wind but I had to redo the tent stakes to pull the tent tight to keep it from collapsing on me, I was also concerned the poles were going to snap because of how much it was collapsing. This was in 10-15mph wind. I use a 10'x20' tarp under the tent to protect the bottom of it. After a couple of uses, I noticed white marks on the floor. It appears to be the floor is made of a super thin rubber type of paint over a thin mesh fabric and the paint chips off. I bought soft carpet to put over the floor for added protection. Too late, next time it rained the carpet was soaked. I used "Tear-aid" patches in each spot I could find that leaked, they worked great. Now each corner leaks, I'm assuming it's from having it tight to withstand wind. One pole has cracked, my repair job on it is still holding up. If the temps get up above mid 70's, pray for a good wind, it gets way hot inside the tent. Thats with the windows open and the rain fly pulled as far out as possible. A fan helps, if your campsite has electricity. If it gets cold at night, the tent isn't designed to stay warm. Expect to go through lots of LPG keeping the heater going. You might fit two queen size air beds in it if you stack them on top of each other. Setup and tear down is easy, one person can do it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Minor but pervasive problems in the first few uses I bought 17 of these for the National Scout Jamboree. Of the 17, the shock cord immediately broke (on first assembly) on one pole, and by the third assembly maybe half had had one ferrule fall off of the end of a pole, or ready to fall off. (So about one quarter of all main poles - and we lost one of them.) None of these were catastrophic for us - we fixed the broken shock cord, and the ferrules fell off after the trip. However, had the shock cord break been in a different place, or had we lost a ferrule before or during the trip, it could have been bad. Taking a longer view, my troop has had two of these and a dozen or so Sundome 3s. Most of the originals have died after maybe eight to ten years and eighty to a hundred trips. They fail in two places: the ferrules wear holes in the pole sleeves, and the main door zippers fail. That's not counting the occasional splintered pole segment; those can be replaced. We've probably had one or two splintered pole segments per tent. If I had to pick a single thing to improve, it would be to make the zippers more robust. That's what's finally killed ours. Note: We're in Southern California. We pretty much never camp in the rain, so don't have significant information on leaking. This last trip to West Virginia had a number of rainstorms and we didn't have any problems, but we did preemptively apply seam sealer just in case. Net: they're pretty solid, but keep some spare shock cord and ferrules on hand, and for the long run learn to replace pole segments. Remember that one of our failures was on first assembly.

What other waterproofing steps should be taken before, during, and after extended daily use? </h2> <div class="bvseo-question-detail"> </div> <div class="bvseo-author">Asked by: SayB</div> <div class="bvseo-answer" data-answerid="3690697"> Hello,&#10;Thank you for reaching out with your question&amp;mdash;we&amp;rsquo;re glad you&amp;rsquo;re preparing for extended use of your tent.&#10;For the Coleman Sundome 6-Person Camping Tent, seam sealing is typically not required right away, as the tent comes with factory-treated seams. However, for extended or frequent use, we recommend checking and resealing once you notice any signs of wear or leakage, rather than after a specific number of days.&#10;Here are some helpful waterproofing tips:&#10;&#10;Before use:&#10;1. Inspect seams and apply a seam sealer if needed.&#10;2. Use a ground tarp (footprint) under the tent (slightly smaller than the base).&#10;3. Apply a waterproofing spray to the rainfly if expecting heavy rain.&#10;&#10;During use:&#10;1. Ensure the rainfly is properly secured and tensioned.&#10;2. Avoid touching the inside walls during rain, as this can allow moisture through.&#10;3. Set up on slightly elevated ground to prevent water pooling.&#10;&#10;After use:&#10;1. Let the tent fully dry before storing to prevent mildew.&#10;2. Clean off dirt and reapply waterproofing treatments as needed over time.&#10;&#10;If you need any further assistance, please contact us via our official website, and we will be more than happy to assist you.&#10;Have a nice day!&#10;Coleman Consumer Care Team <div class="bvseo-author">Answered by: Coleman&reg; Consumer Care</div> <div class="bvseo-pubdate">Date published: 2026-04-28</div> </div> </div> <div class="bvseo-question-answer" data-questionid="4862404"> <h2 class="bvseo-question"> Is this tent recommended for 6 months of continuous use? </h2> <div class="bvseo-question-detail"> </div> <div class="bvseo-author">Asked by: SayB</div> <div class="bvseo-answer" data-answerid="3690518"> Hello, thank you for your inquiry. &#10;&#10;No. The Coleman Sundome&amp;reg; 6‑Person Tent is not designed for 6 months of continuous use.&#10;&#10;It&amp;rsquo;s made for short trips, and long-term exposure will wear down the fabric, seams, and poles. The floor can wear faster on rough wood, and water can behave differently underneath it.&#10;&#10;If you do use a deck, put a tarp or footprint under it for protection&#10;Use weights or tie-downs instead of stakes and make sure there are no sharp edges or screws on the deck.&#10;&#10;It might work on a platform, but it performs best on dirt or grass, where it can be properly staked and tensioned.&#10;&#10;If you have any more questions, please reach out to us via our Contact Us form at https://www.coleman.com/support/contact-us or via Live Chat.
