You hold the top of the handle down to open the lock to be able to drink from the mug. There is a spot on both sides of the lid to drink from, so it works perfectly no matter if you are left or right handed. The lid opens up to make it easy to clean, which I love. I put coffee in the mug at 10 am and 5 hours later it was still hot. I was super impressed.

However I bought 3 initially and had to replace all 3. Those 3 replacements all had the exact same issue.. if they fix the mechanism that controls the plunger, this would be a great mug. It is unfortunate as I had 3 of the old design for several years, using every day without a problem.

This was ten years ago. I've purchase three additionally mugs since this first one, because of lost. I've had two mugs fail during that time due to multiple drops and being run over by golf carts. I really like the design of the handle because it can attach to my belt or pocket when my hands are unavailable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Khant from An actual no-spill lid [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am always using a to-go mug in the mornings on my way to work and this is honestly the first one that I found that actually does not leak from the lid. The design is ergonomic and has a great pressure-release system, and boy does it keep things hot. I haven't tried a cold beverage in it, but I imagine that the insulation would be great for that, too. I really like this mug.

Rated 3 out of 5 by kutr from Luv the cup, but can't drink out of it now... The thumb button mechanism no longer opens the drinking holes. It seems to have worn out. I agree that it seems like a design flaw or quality problem. I'm very happy with my Contigo products overall, but they have to do better than this. Too bad, too, because I love the style and ease of use for this mug. Also, I can find no replacement lids for this model. If the lids are failing at this rate, they should at least offer lids.

I have to admit that I couldn't figure out for the life in me how to get the lid off for the first few minutes and it turns out to be simpler then what it looks. The handle with the entire top unscrew in one piece to reveal that the directions are tucked inside of it. The inside is insulated steel and NOT ceramic and the no spill lid has a chrome slide side button on the handle to close and lock in place. Slide the chrome button in the opposite direction to open and your able to sip from either side whether your right handed or left handed. Kept my coffee hot but NOT scorching hot for several hours. It fits nicely in the cup holder in my van. Top Quality!! Love the amazing modern and sleek look with the gun metal sheen to it. This item is hand wash only which is effortless!

It keeps your drink temperature either hot or cold for a long time. It does not leak and it has a lock to make sure it does not come open. Rated 2 out of 5 by Nuts About Coffee from Bad technology for the lid. I purchase 2 of these Contigo Handled Autoseal stainless steel travel nugs, with easy clean lid, one wine and one evergreen. The evergreen mug lid does not open the drinking holes, as well as the Red Wine one is on its way doing the same thing, not opening the drinking holes. Very disappointed with this technology. Can the lids be replaced, as this is an expensive mug. Thank you for your immediate response.

However, the mechanism for drinking has worn out! The plunger no longer opens the drinking holes. I had two of the older model and was so pleased with the improved top (ease of cleaning!) that I bought three of the new model. This problem seems to be a design flaw. Please consider offering replacement lids!

My problem is i have many bottom parts of the cup but the lids do not hold up long enough for me. I do not mind buying a new lid but cant seem to find a replacement lid. I now have 3 cups but none of my lids work. My very favorite tumbler. If only i could buy more lids i would be so happy.

With that said, the lid is giving me issues lately. The thumb button has been opening the holes less and less and now it won’t open them at all. 4 out of 5 stars due to this design flaw. However, the lid’s thumb mechanism is the only issue I’ve had and absolutely love this cup. I wish I had a replacement lid for it.

When pressing the thumb button, it does not allow much water to flow in order to drink. If I turn the cup the wrong way, water escapes from the vent on the top of the cup. Is it possible to get another lid for the cup as otherwise I have been completely satisfied with the cup. Thank you.

I contacted the company and received a replacement, but the same problem occurred. The level does not seem to operate anymore, so the coffee does not come out. He and I both were very vigilant in cleaning it each use, but the problem has reached the point where it is again unusable.

Unfortunately the lid of my current one is starting to fail. The push-button mechanism has worn out, so that when I press it barely anything comes out. in the interest of not creating unnecessary waste, is it possible to purchase just a replacement lid? The tumbler is still in great shape, so I'd rather not toss it out.

The only problem I have had with it, is the plastic part inside the handle is to weak and after a month or two it doesn't open enough to get a drink out of it. In one of them I had, the plastic part inside the handle actually broke off. I hope they fix this problem and leave everything else the same.

It keeps things hot when it's hot and keeps things cold when it already cold. It's very easy to clean and get all into the tint spots. I love that you can press a button in the top and it comes down to clean the whole top area. This mug is Spill Proof to prevent spills and cause accidents.

I would make my coffee, take it to drop my kids off at school, go study for an hour before class, and my coffee was still warm after the hour long class. Perfect if you have little ones around because you can lock the handle so they don’t accidentally spill hot coffee/tea on themselves. The inside opens up, yet stays attached for cleaning.

But after a while the trigger stopped working, the coffee would barely tribble out and when I tipped it up I ended up with coffee on my face and cloths. I love my contigo cups and water bottles but this lid is not good.. It is hard to rate this because when I first got it it was great but after a few months the lid just didn't work.

Each time I come on the website just to try to order replacement lid, they always seem to be out. I tried going back to using an old coffee mug from another company but after having a contigo and how hot my coffee stays, I hate others but they get expensive to keep having to buy a new mug due to lid.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love that you don't have to take apart the lid to clean it but yet it has a great seal on it. No leaks at all. And I had filled it with ice and tea but I forgot it in the car, after over 4 hours in a very hot car, it was 94 out that day, the ice was still in the cup. I can't believe it didn't melt. I definitely recommend this cup.

I have only one issue... the cup will not open all the way at the seal to release coffee.. I try to drink and the coffee comes from the far side and spills all over me.. What a waste of coffee. I will order a new lid. I cant be with out this mug!

However, I have the same problem with it as others said. The button to open the lid wears out and you can't get the liquid out of the cup. Please start selling replacement lids. As a major company, this should be basic customer service when you know your product has a flaw.

Rated 2 out of 5 by White from Don't Buy. This "updated" version of the autoseal is not nearly as good as the original. I have loved my continuo mug since it first came out. When the lid wore out (began leaking because the rubber ring wore out), I bought this model. The first version lasted several years. This one lasted only six months before leaking through the air holes and through the handle. I treated this one exactly the same as my other one including dishwashing it every day. The randomly one lasted five years before I needed a replacement lid. I still use it. I have since thrown two of these away and found the older model online elsewhere. I will be sad when the old inventory runs out as I will not be spending any more money on these (not) "better newer ones." Please stop making changes that actually make things worse. The texture of the plastic on this model is also rougher which I do not enjoy compared to the smooth plastic on the original.

I use it nearly everyday. I planned to purchase a dozen or two for him to personalize for my next years submarine crew reunion. They would make great gifts, but have had trouble locating an amount of black mugs at any store.

Always want the handle, much easier to carry when walking the dogs or carrying other stuff into work. Please don't ever discontinue this design! Only issue is that the color wears off all the time, gets scratched off and I never put in the dishwasher.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Meeko from Fix the lid that deteriorates in a few months! I love this design, can switch hands without having to unscrew the lid and realign the spout like all other mugs! And I can't hold onto a big mug while walking the dogs etc. too uncomfortable especially if you have any arthritis in your hand. BUT I have to replace this mug every few months because the stupid spring release gets weak and stops opening the lid all the way resulting in having to tip the cup up higher and then it dribbles all over your clothes. I have multiple stained tops thanks to this lid. Have spent a lot of money buying this mug over and over due to this lid with the cheap spring mechanism that wears out too fast. I have never even put these in the dishwasher like it's says you can, that would probably expedite the lid demise even more. Please put a stronger spring in this lid and you will have a winner.... Also can you make it in a 20 oz with the 7 hour hot rating like some of your other mugs? Please?
