Have Mug, Will Travel
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am a firm believer that coffee and tea should be consumed piping hot. I was extremely pleased that the Contigo Autoseal West LoopVacuum-Insulated Stainless Steel Travel Mug maintains the temperature of my beverages for hours. I tested it!
I added 176-degree F water to the mug at 1 pm and tightened the lid. Nine hours later the water temperature had only decreased to 105-degrees F. Perfect for lasting the entire workday or on road trips.
The green exterior reminds me of a dragon egg and is super unique to most other travel mugs on the market. It will last forever and handle being dropped since it is made of stainless steel. The mug fits neatly into both mine and my husband’s vehicles cupholders.
I love that you can lock the Autoseal function to prevent accidental openings and spills. I turned the mug upside down to check whether it was leakproof…it is!
The only downside of the lid is it does require a decent amount of force to press the vertical silver button to open where you sip from. It may loosen slightly as it’s used more frequently. It may be hard for someone with small hands or a child to grip and press the button with one hand.
The lid is super easy to clean since it is all one piece and there is nothing to take apart. I cannot fit my hand into the bottle, so it is a little bit harder to clean as it is hand-wash only.
Overall, a great travel mug for everyday use!

Inferior to previous version
These are not worth the price. I absolutely love my West Loop 1.0 (circa 2014). Dropped it a few days ago and busted the bottom cover so I ordered this, West Loop 3.0.
I'm not opposed to change/adaption if it's positive, but the revisions to the West Loop are all negative IMHO. Who's running your R&D department, Contigo? Moving the drink hole further from the edge was just plain stupid. Even if you suck on the lid like it's a pacifier, coffee pools on the lid. I should have taken the pics before I rinsed it off so everyone can see the pool of coffee. I guess that's why they added the tall lip around the lid; to hold the coffee that doesn't make it to your mouth. Did I use the word stupid, yet?
Moving the vent behind the button causes the spray to hit the button and even your fingers if the mug is full and was laying horizontally.
Covering the beautiful stainless steel with paint is illogical. You can't throw it in the dishwasher because the paint WILL eventually flake off and no matter how careful you are with it, you're going to experience chipped paint.
The o-ring design that seals the lid to the container is also inferior. I know this o-ring is not going to last nearly as long as the one on the West Loop 1.0.
I don't know if they pulled less or no vacuum on the container, but coffee does NOT stay hot as long, when compared to the West Loop 1.0. Contigo's temperature retention claims are highly overrated and border on false-advertising.
Bottom line: Maybe you will be a satisfied customer if you've never owned the 1.0, but the 3.0 has taken the model way off course.

The vacuum insulation works impressively, keeping coffee or tea hot for up to 5–7 hours and cold drinks chilled for up to 12 hours. Even after several hours, my coffee was still warm—much better than standard mugs.
