Rated 4 out of 5 by from True to the classic Dear Coleman Team, I wanted to take a moment to share some feedback about a recent product I purchased. For Father’s Day, my children surprised me with a new Coleman Guide Series Dual Fuel Stove. They thought it was time to replace the one I’ve been using since June 1976, which has served me faithfully for nearly 50 years and was probably due for some maintenance. When I opened the gift, I was genuinely excited to see that the new stove is such a faithful reproduction of the original. It immediately brought back memories of the stove I’ve relied on for decades, and I truly appreciated the care taken to preserve the classic design and functionality that have made these stoves so dependable over the years. The stove performed flawlessly on its first outing. The familiar smell of Coleman fuel burning and bacon cooking brought back so many wonderful memories of family camping trips over the years. When it came time to clean and put the stove away, I noticed the redesigned removable grate. Being able to lift it out made cleaning the inside of the stove quick and easy—a thoughtful improvement that I really appreciated. The only issue I encountered came when we tried to empty the remaining fuel from the tank before storage. I asked my son to carefully pour the unused Coleman fuel back into the storage container, but he quickly discovered that the recessed filler opening made it nearly impossible to drain the tank completely. I understand the reasoning behind recessing the filler cap. It likely reduces the chance of someone attempting to refuel the stove while it is still lit, and I certainly appreciate the emphasis on safety. However, it also makes it difficult to follow the storage instructions that recommend removing the fuel before storing the stove. While I realize we live in a world where product liability is an unavoidable consideration, I do miss the days when common sense, functionality, and ease of use could coexist with good engineering. It seems this is one instance where practicality may have taken a back seat to making the product as foolproof as possible. That small criticism aside, I want to thank you for continuing to manufacture such a quality product in the United States. Everyone at Coleman should be proud of the products they build and the role they have played in creating cherished memories for generations of families. As for my original stove, I recently rebuilt my old 425E, and it is now running and looking as good as new. My hope is to pass both stoves down to my children someday, and with any luck, they’ll each provide another 50 years of dependable service and unforgettable camping memories.
