Rated 1 out of 5 by from cumbersome grease trap The manual tells me to fill the lower tray with water to the level indicated. After cooking, grease went into the water and made a horrible smelling greasy mixture. I had to clean the tray and dispose of the grease separately. I think this is a big drawback on this model. I called support and gave him the model number on the manual's front page, 9901 series and he didn't know what I was talking about. He said he would contact me via email. Called yesterday morning and still waiting for a response. I will give them the weekend to answer, and if not, I'll return it. The box calls it a roadtrip 225 TT. In any event, soon, I will be forced to return this grill.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cooks very well, some design issues This grill cooks very well! It stays lit even with a steady breeze unlike other camping sized grills. The overall design leaves something to be desired. The side tables are a nice touch, but the handles should have been able to fold down to give more room to actually use the tables. The latch to hold the lid down is not strong enough to hold the grated in place without popping open when pulling the grill is a folded up position rolling on its wheels. Hooks to hang utensils would have been a nice touch for this price point.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not worth the $235 price tag After reading some.ptsvious reviews I had the same issues with the riveting that connects the top cover with the bottom. As you can see after just a handful of uses two of the rivets are missing and now I'm tasked with finding some washers and rerevitting the lid back to the body. You can definitely find a better product for the high cost of this one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nothing else like it. We live in Florida and bought one of these for when the power goes out from a hurricane. We found out that you just can't find anything comparable to this grill regardless of price. Most stores only have these monstrous-sized grills. We finally located an RV center that had all the four Coleman models. We picked this one because of the superior burner system and the cast-iron grills (not aluminum like some others - check the weight!). Our first meal on this grill was wonderful! It's not perfect, but it works great, is attractive (we have the green one), fits in our limited space, and has its own stand. I give it 5 stars because there is nothing else like it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Portable, easy to use grill. First I will comment on the packaging, I found that it was pretty beat up upon arrival and the items inside were shuffled around, causing slight scratches on the grill. I did not remove any stars for that since that could have easily been FedEx’s fault and nothing to do with the product itself. However, the grill was easy to put together and fire up. I like that the grill is lightweight and is easily portable with one hand operation. I got the grill up to 500 degrees very quickly and everything functioned and cooked evenly. From camping, to park cookouts to tailgating, this grill will be able to do it all. I would highly recommend this grill!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great portable grill This is the best portable grill I have ever used. I took it to tailgate before a concert. It was easy to build, I’m a 5’2” middle aged woman, did it myself in about half an hour while half watching tv. It folds and unfolds easily (once I read the directions), rolls around easily (like wheeled luggage), is easy to set up quickly and get cooking. I like that I don’t need a table or to cook on the ground, this grill is the perfect height and with 2 extending table areas, there is room for the tongs, bbq sauce, and beer! I would definitely recommend this grill to someone who tailgates, or needs a smaller grill that still has a big cooking surface.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality I purchased the 285 portable grill on-line to replace a Coleman 225 grill that was stolen from our yard. We had good luck with that grill and thought we would upgrade to the 285. Assembly was straightforward and easy. However, as we went to take it outside, we were holding one end of the grill by the metal handles attached to the base when the rivets on the side of one of the handles popped out. This was not something we had installed; the handles were attached when we received the grill. I read an earlier review about this same issue with the rivet that secures the handle failing. I should have heeded the warning because clearly the defect has not been corrected. Upon calling Coleman directly, they said there was nothing we could do to fix it since it is attached with a rivet and not a screw, and further, it is not a warranted part. They said our only option was to return it to the big box store at which it was purchased for a refund. Not only is this disappointing, but it is a huge inconvenience!! At least it broke right off the bat and we can return it. If we had already grilled on it, I'm assuming we would be stuck with it. We likely won’t purchase another Coleman grill.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pay attention to the reviews This grill could be great but has a major design flaw and is poorly assembled. The clip and metal screws that keep the tray from freely sliding out fell out on one side. Now the tray won’t stay in when I fold it up. Other issue is the griddle you can purchase separately sits high and you can’t close the lid if using it. The positive to it is the burner and burner control. It could be an amazing grill but as of now I would not purchase it again or recommend it. Which I hate saying cause I’ve always loved my Coleman grills prior to this. This one happening to be the most expensive as well and I can’t find the parts to repair it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still great, but a step down from the LXX model First and foremost, this is a great tailgate/family camping grill. Tons of heat, and greater temp control than my older model (Roadtrip LXX). However, it is missing out on some key features of the older LXX model that makes it not quite as good of a product (at this price point) as the former model - missing the stainless steel pull out side tables, LXX ones seem sturdier, too; missing hooks for utensils; the 285 has a third burner, but with the drop in heat output, I don't see this as an improvement. Overall, still a great product and it fits all of the same accessories - like the stove grates which make this a highly versatile product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Replacement regulator So here's the deal I am trying to buy a new portable grill. And the entire reason is because my regulator went bad on my other one and I cannot get a replacement. So I am reading the reviews on this Grill and have not purchased one yet and I'm noticing that people are asking for a replacement regulator but can I get one at all so I suggest that I and everyone else not by this grill or any other grill that you cannot get a replacement regulator. Unless you do not mind buying a new grill every time it goes out. Coleman figure out a way to have replacement Regulators for the customers. Very poor situation

Rated 3 out of 5 by from New design not really an improvement. I bought the grill because I wanted something portable as I trailer to horse shows with my family. The grill has a great design for portability. I love the stand and the shelves that slide out to make it an all in one cooking station. Things I don’t like; the instructions for assembly are not very clear. There in a chain on the legs for something and no mention at all as to what it’s for. It doesn’t get hot enough when used in cold weather. Also this new design doesn’t have a drip tray like the old design to catch the grease. All the grease goes in to the water tray and you have to let the grill cool down to remove it so then clean up is not easy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from rusted all around the stove. do not order thought the bag was great to store the grill in. do not buy it as it allowed moisture to stay inside and rusted the entire grill outside. only used grill a couple of times. when i called, was told rust not covered, can not return bag as it was opened. not at all what you would think of a Coleman product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally can enjoy road trips bbq!! This is one heck of a nice grill! I've used it several times and it cooks better than my larger one. It's a bit heavy, but the quality of the construction is impressive. The design is excellent, and it folds for rolling and storage easily. Kudos to the designer . The third burner adds plenty of additional heat when needed. A 1 pound propane tank will last well over an hour depending on the use of the burners. These screw in easily below the grill. During the initial few uses burgers and chicken will stick and leave a bit of their delicate charred surface on the grill. A smoother surface will season much easier. Otherwise, this is a nice grill. Recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Grill on the go This is by far the best bbq I have ever owned. You can grill at home just like any other propane grill or you can pack it up and head to your favorite park or beach. It’s completely lightweight and fold up to a small size. It grills great I absolutely love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Travel Ready! Coleman RoadTrip 285 Portable Stand-Up Propane Grill is everything you need to have excellent food when camping and any other outdoor event or excursion! What I like most about it is how sturdy it is. It has substance where it's not easily knocked over, and it can withstand many many uses. The easy of use is also pleasant, and the many features is amazing too! It heats quickly and evening and has plenty of space to make several items at once! It's also easy to store and move around, which is definitely a plus. Anyone who does grilling and travelling, even a short distance, needs one of these! I'd definitely recommend!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great until it stopped working This was a great grill until it stopped working. The flame is now very low which means bad regulator. Easy fix? Not a chance. Coleman does not sell replacement regulators for this grill. When searching for one it pulls up a regulator that screws on to the grill. This is not the way the regulator is attached to this grill. The regulator is under the control knob panel and I can’t find one that mounts that way. I’ve had this grill for slightly over 4 years and it has been used very lightly. It has always been kept in my trailer or garage, never left outside. I also purchased a cover for the entire grill. I would really like to be able to get a new regulator so I can use this grill again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No parts available to fix. Broken just over 1 year The BBQ stopped working just over the 1 year purchase date. We took it apart and tried to order what we think is the defective part but no success. Parts are not available. Also noticed that they do not list the warranty period on their website. I would not recommend. Our next BBQ will be a brand that offers replacement parts. Not a coleman.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Grill will not light, Terrible design Grill regulator failed. Grill will not light and no repair part listed in manual or online. Sent description of problem and asked how to get a new regulator to customer service and have not received a reply. I have sent in another request, see if I get a reply this time Grill heats unevenly. It took me 30 minutes to disassemble grill to get to regulator. Why would you design it this way to get to a part that has a tendency to fail

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy, affordable, excellent features Not sure what I was expecting, but this certainly blew that out of the water. I did expect good quality and sturdy, but figured because it was portable some "tin-niness" would be necessary. Not so at all. Apparently this is the latest of the RoadTrip series, because it appears Coleman listened to at least some of the past reviews and made positive changes - easier instructions, higher lid with thermometer and three heat available settings. Arrived at my door in less than a week (more like 3-4 days) in good shape - I was surprised by how heavy the package was. I'm older and not as handy as I'd like to admit, but I put it together alone in less than an hour, and found the instructions very clear. I've diy-ed it before but would never consider myself a master builder. Was impressed by the little details, such as including two of the wrenches - made tightening SO much easier and faster. (Thanks, Coleman). Hint: If alone, open the top flaps, take out the instructions, and turn the box upside down onto a rug or blanket, then easily the box off - It still takes some finagling to unpack from all the styrofoam, but nowhere near as horrible as trying to dead-lift this monster straight out of the box, fighting the packing all the way! I purchased to use mostly on the patio of my 2nd flr condo, so space was a bigger issue for me and figured grilling would need to be less elaborate -- not so. Grill is large and the 3 zones will allow me to sear, roast AND do veggies at same time. Not sure about turkey, but am sure I can roast a good-sized chicken in here - will update on that if can. I had thought I would not be moving from the 2nd floor, but now that I have it, I would not hesitate to drag it up and down the stairs for actual road trips &/or disasters. Finally, I live in Tampa Bay and used to work for Red Cross, so planning ahead is part of this purchase. After Hurricane Irma, many of us spent up a week without power (some longer) in our undamaged homes. Obviously an electric grill is not an answer, but I am more than expecting this bad boy to not only stand up to stark conditions, but to easily get out of the way in the first place! And yes, I will be adding the burner plate to the grill and hotplate. Oh yes, on a much less important note, I purchased this grill in blue and for me, pleasantly surprised (again) the blue is not the royal of prior grills. It's a nice color for my patio and actually kinda matches my Jeep - sorta.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from expensive yet does not deliver This is a $400 BBQ and it came with imperfections. The legs were drilled the wrong way. The grill had imperfections. It also had some scratches. For $400 I expect a better made bbq. This is more of a $30 no name bbq.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Coleman roadtrip 285 portable standup propane gril Man where to start absolutely love the Coleman gas grill. One of the main thing I like about the grill is that is easy clean up. I pretty much to use a wet rag and everything wiped right off. save me a lot of time. The second thing I really liked about the grill is that heats up evenly when you use all three burners this is the first gas grill I've ever had that had three burners the third thing I really like about the gas grill is that it's on wheels and I also folds down flat for Easy Storage , when they say portable that's exactly what they mean this grill is really portable . So coming from somebody who loves to grill that's mainly grilled with charcoal my whole life I highly recommend this Coleman gas grill it is definitely game changer thank me later!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Construction shortcomings OK, the grill is nice looking and is lighter than the Coleman portable I had. Two issues in construction. Why did you change to that type of lick for the top? The push down lock was much better and secure. This new gizmo is sure to break. Second, the release for the bottom keg, when closed you can’t take it off because the release pins are on the inside you can’t push them in. Go back to the snap lock. Also, when trying to match up an adapter to a 20 kb tank, very confusing as to the model number recommended. I ordered one, hope it’s correct. Haven’t grilled yet, but I’m sure it’ll cook fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product This is a wonderful product from Coleman. I am so thankful for inventing such a compact and portable grill that caters to all of my road trip cooking needs. It comes with foldable stand and roller wheels to move it wherever needed. It comes with three burner tops and fully caters to my cooking needs. The matchless insta start ignition is every campers dream come true. Be it meat or veggies it Cooks them up to their perfect point. With heat adjustable from a few BTUs to several BTUs I can enjoy both slow cooked meals as well as smoked flavor meals. It is compact and folds upright till we use it for our next road trip. I have already recommended it to my friends. Wonderful and awesome product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Yet I was reluctant to buy this small grill. I am not a camper so I bought it for regular home use. It is the best investment I have made on a gas grill. Perfect fo 2 people, yet if I get visitors I can cook for them as well. I have cooked for 6 people with no problem. The grill grates are easy to clean. I wash them in the kitchen sink. Since I use it at home I connect it to my 20lb propane tank. Much less expensive than the small tanks. I keep a small tank around in case my 20lb tank runs out of fuel. I love this grill.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from haven't even gotten to use it We bought this grill despite its super high cost, and upon assembly, nuts were missing for the attached thermometer so it was wiggly. Then, my husband was packing it in the car for a big trip to Big Bend when the lid POPPED OFF! The metal pins holding the lid hinges to the grill broke in half...all 6 of them! We haven't even used it yet and I don't see a way to fix this. Didn't even survive being packed in the car. Don't buy!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little stove Great little stove. Downside didn’t have a place to put utensils also should’ve come with a insert for drip pan So you can just throw it away when you’re done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still going strong over a year later I got this for my husband, since he loves tailgating and everyone hated bringing grills. He decided he liked it so much that he just put it on our deck and it's become the main grill. It's easy to move when cleaning and nothing has needed a replacement. My husband is pretty tough on products, so the fact that nothing has broken, says something. I'm actully ordering some for a company giveaway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! I received my Coleman Roadtrip portable grill about a week ago. Packaging was great and it arrived in a great amount of time. Quick easy to put together. Easy to transport from one location to another. Grills meat very well. My wife and I are very satisfied with our new grill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! Occasionally we go to the lakefront and eat seafood and let the kids play, but this time we were able to have BBQ. This grill was awesome! I'm use to charcoal so I didn't know how i would like it, but it was good. The grill was cute and easy to put in the trunk, and the wheels were a big help also. They made it easy to get it from the car to whatever spot we setup up. The food taste really and it cooked evenly, I don't know why I didn't get one of these grills sooner. I've been bragging about it to my friends and telling them how it's good to have one of these on hand.
